Twitch is announcing some good news that content creators on the platform should be happy about, especially if they are struggling to make a living from their activity. The platform is not currently known for being the most advantageous in terms of remuneration, but the update to its conditions reshuffles the cards a little. The company owned by Amazon is unveiling a relaxation of its Partner Plus program to reward more streamers.
Introduced a few months ago, this program allows partners, but also some affiliates to be paid at more attractive rates (70/30 instead of 50/50 normally). While it was previously quite difficult to be eligible, Twitch is making some changes to make it easier for creators to enter the program. It now has a first entry level set at 100 Plus points, which increases the remuneration rate to 60/40 to the streamer's advantage. The previous standards – 300 Plus points for a 70/30 remuneration – become those of level 2.
To perfect this introduction, the platform announces that the ceiling of $100,000 per year is completely removed. Once reached, the rate will no longer go from 70% to 50% and will therefore remain more advantageous for the streamer than for the company in the long term. In its press release, it explains: “The feedback we have received is clear: the cap limits growth opportunities for the streamers concerned and has a deterrent effect.”
A reshuffle of the Prime Gaming sub
After so much encouraging news, there was bound to be a slight shadow on the horizon. Indeed, Twitch ended up announcing the standardization of Prime Gaming subscriptions on its service: “we will be moving to a fixed-rate model for Prime Gaming subscriptions, based on the subscriber's country. The transition to this new model will take place on June 3, 2024.” The company explains that with this change, streamers will see a slight 5% drop in revenue generated by Prime subs.
With these changes, Twitch does not become the best-paying platform in the world of livestreaming, but it does demonstrate serious efforts, especially regarding level 1 of the Partner Plus program. For most creators, those who do not live from their passion, the criteria are still difficult to access, and for good reason, the multiplication of the offer on the platform necessarily generates a division of income.
Other companies continue to assert themselves on the financial ground, such as Kick and its 95/5 remuneration for the streamer, or YouTube which has a fixed rate of 70%. What Twitch can offer more is a much larger audience, which can increase the number of financial interactions, although they are individually less advantageous.
