With some 3.24 billion gamers worldwide and Twitch streamers earning millions streaming their games, the lending brand wear Superdry wanted to identify the most popular games and players by analyzing Google data from 169 countries over the last 12 months.
What are the most popular video games?
Launched in 2017, Fortnite is a free-to-play, cross-platform battle royale game that has truly taken the world by storm. The data reveals that it ranks first in 106 countries, making it the most popular game globally. The second position goes to Minecraft, a block game that offers to create universes in a three-dimensional space, which is the most searched in 51 countries, including Russia, Brazil and South Korea.
Although Fortnite and Minecraft clearly dominate the ranking worldwide, the top 5 is completed by Grand Theft Auto V, Genshin Impact and Valorant, which are at the top of searches in only a few countries. Without much surprise in France, it is Fortnite that dominates the market.
Who is the most popular Twitch streamer?
The most popular Twitch streamer in the world is Ninja, an American gamer with 17 million followers on the platform. Topping searches in 46 countries, Ninja became famous by broadcasting his Fortnite Battle Royale games. His popularity has allowed him to invite celebrities such as Drake and Travis Scott to play with him.
#1 in 36 countries, British streamer TommyInnit is the second most searched Twitch streamer in the world. At just 17, he holds two Guinness World Records: the most followed Minecraft Twitch streamer and the most views.
The third most Googled Twitch streamer is AuronPlay, who lives in Spain and has 10.6 million followers. His username is unsurprisingly the most searched in many Spanish-speaking countries such as Bolivia, Chile and Peru.
The ranking includes only two female streamers, Pokimane (#1 in 12 countries) and Pqueen (#1 in three countries). Aged 25, the Moroccan-Canadian YouTuber Pokimane is best known for her League of Legends and Fortnite streams, while the Turkish Pqueen has amassed 1.7 million followers over the years. In France, and even in 8 countries, it is Squeezie who is at the top of the streamers on Twitch.
The most famous streamers, who rake in millions of hours of views per month, earn substantial income from their broadcasts, while building an empire of loyal followers. According to sources such as Influencer Marketing Hub, they earn an average of $250 for 100 subscribers. The 10 most followed Twitch streamers therefore share more than 20 million in revenue paid by the platform!
