WhatsApp will allow you to take a call without activating the video

Have you ever received a WhatsApp video call when you weren't really ready to be on screen? Whether in the shower, at the hairdresser's, or in the middle of a disastrous fast-food meal, sometimes initiating an impromptu video call is the last thing you want. Until now, WhatsApp imposed an unappealing choice: accept the call with the camera activated or reject it directly. This painful era is soon coming to an end. its end.

An option to answer with audio only

Discovered by Android Authority, a change being tested in the beta version 2.25.7.3 of WhatsApp on Android will allow users to disable the camera before answering a video call. A simple tap on the "Disable video" option will instantly transform the call into an audio communication, without displaying the user's face from the start of the exchange.

The interface will display a mention "Accept without video" under the incoming call, thus avoiding handling errors. If the user changes their mind during the conversation, they can always reactivate the video at any time.

Beyond personal comfort, this new feature could strengthen user security. WhatsApp has already been cited in scams, including attempts at blackmail through "sextortion." Some scammers initiate video calls by displaying explicit content, then take a screenshot of the victim's face to demand a ransom. By allowing users to reply without activating the camera, WhatsApp could limit these fraudulent practices.

For now, the date of general deployment of this feature remains unknown, but its usefulness suggests that it could arrive quickly on the official application. An update that promises to be enthusiastically welcomed by users concerned about their privacy and comfort.
