Xbox's decision to bring its flagship exclusives to PS5 and Nintendo Switch earlier this year caused a stir among gamers. Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, Pentiment, and Grounded were the first to arrive on rival platforms, while the highly anticipated Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle, available on December 9 on Xbox and PC, will be released in spring 2025 on PS5.
Microsoft does not intend to stop there and wants to bring more exclusives to the platforms of its main rivals. Satya Nadella, president of the American company, reaffirms his desire to stay on course, without forgetting to highlight the weight of Xbox Game Studios franchises.
Microsoft President Wants Even More Xbox Exclusives on PS5 and Switch
A short while before the end of the year, Microsoft President Satya Nadella looks back on the highlights of the company's 2024 in a long LinkedIn post. He obviously talks about the new direction Xbox is taking with great enthusiasm.
“With the acquisition of Activision Blizzard King, which was finalized in October 2023, we have added hundreds of millions of players to our ecosystem […]. We brought four of our fan-favorite titles to Nintendo Switch and PS5 for the first time, as we continue to expand our content to new platforms,” he wrote in the letter, which is included in Microsoft’s 2024 annual report.
As if to show that Xbox has not become a mere publisher, he points out that 20 franchises have generated more than $1 billion in revenue, including Candy Crush, Diablo, Halo, Warcraft, The Elder Scrolls, and Gears of War. Satya Nadella also does not neglect the Xbox Series, indicating that "the platform is effectively positioned compared to competing products and services, and that it is uniquely differentiated, thanks to significant innovations in hardware architecture, user interface, development tools" and games.
Microsoft therefore seems happy to be able to continue to offer exclusives first on Xbox and its Game Pass before marketing them on the platforms of its rivals Nintendo and Sony. It remains to be seen whether the Redmond firm intends to go so far as to offer these famous licenses to $1 billion in revenue generated on PS5 and Switch... For a while, rumors were circulating that Forza Horizon 5 or Starfield would be released on Sony's latest console. Remember that Fable and Avowed are among the big Xbox exclusives planned for 2025.
