Xbox: income is increasing, but it is not thanks to consoles

A few hours ago, Microsoft published its new figures for the first quarter of fiscal year 2025. We can see a strong increase of 61% in revenue from Xbox software. The cloud was also a positive point for the company. Unfortunately, Microsoft does not owe this increase to the Xbox consoles (Series X/S) which are, as for them, down in this first quarter.

Activision-Blizzard saves Xbox

Xbox: income is increasing, but it is not thanks to consoles

According to a recent official press release released by Microsoft on its official website, Xbox's gaming revenues increased by 61% in the previous quarter. Clearly, it is the acquisition of Activision/Blizzard that is starting to bear fruit with 53 points of net impact in the first quarter of fiscal year 2025. For their part, Xbox Series X/S sales are down 29%. This decline can easily be explained by the company's new strategy which now wants to offer its games on all media, even on PlayStation 5.

Concerning the Cloud, the latter is also doing well. Thanks to With the arrival of the new Game Pass Standard formula and the increase in prices of Game Pass Ultimate, the Cloud branch of Microsoft and Xbox sees its rate increase by 20% during the last quarter. Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft specifies that the release of Call of Duty Black Ops6 will necessarily do good and boost subscriptions even more. In addition, the CEO of the company confirms that Black Ops6 is simply the biggest launch of all time for a Call of Duty game.

Still on the Cloud side, Microsoft records $24.1 billion in revenue thanks to Microsoft Azure. Azure and other cloud services revenue increased 33%, including 12 points from demand for its AI services. As a reminder, Microsoft plans to focus even more on the Cloud in the coming weeks with the launch of xCloud tests allowing you to play all your Xbox games, even those that are not on Game Pass. More than ever, Microsoft's new strategy is moving towards Cloud Gaming to gradually abandon consoles.
