That’s it: the festivities have just begun for the largest Japanese video game show. On the occasion of the inauguration of the Tokyo Game Show, Microsoft held its own conference aimed at highlighting its Asian partners as well as some of its in-house productions. Against all expectations, this presentation lasted more than an hour and was the scene of some rather surprising announcements. If you don’t have the time or the courage to catch up on all the trailers presented live, here is our selection of the most significant revelations. And no, it's not just about JRPGs (unlike the last Nintendo Direct)!
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
The Redmond firm started off in style with the release of new images of the long-awaited remake. The title announced in May 2023 had not given any more news, but fans were finally able to discover new sublime extracts of the cult game. Initially released on PS2 in 2005 before being reissued on 3DS in 2012, the opus Snake Eater will finally benefit from a multiplatform release on Xbox Series, PlayStation 5 and PC. Unfortunately, the broadcast of this new trailer has still not been accompanied by a release date. Will Konami manage to keep its launch window for 2024? In the absence of any details, it is very likely that the remake has been postponed. To be continued.
Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle
As we predicted when this conference was announced, the new Microsoft exclusive has finally revealed its last secrets. Indiana Jones' new adventure has shown new images. The date set by the Redmond firm for Gamescom is maintained: see you on December 9 to discover what this single-player FPS has in store. As a reminder, the title will be available in the Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass packages upon its release. Alternatively, players can also pre-order one of the special editions revealed today. The Digital Premium Edition offers cosmetic bonuses, as well as 3-day early access and story DLC, while the physical Collector's Edition also offers some surprising goodies.
Overwatch 2 x My Hero Academia
What better time than Tokyo Game Show to reveal a new collaboration with a hit anime? After One Punch Man, Overwatch 2 is getting ready to receive the superheroes and villains of My Hero Academia. Many were already imagining the latest hero Juno with an Ochaco Uraraka skin and these predictions were right! Starting October 17, players of Blizzard's FPS will be able to discover Juno Ochaco, Reinhardt All Might, Tracer Midoriya, Shigaraki Reaper, and Toga Kiriko. These cosmetics should also be accompanied by some free rewards to be collected through in-game missions.
Threads of Time
It's impossible to talk about Tokyo Game Show without mentioning a single JRPG. We've chosen to eclipse the famous Metaphor ReFantazio from the creators of Persona in favor of Threads of Time. This emerging gem attempts to ride the wave of HD-2D visuals popularized by Octopath Traveler and promises an epic worthy of the greatest franchises of the genre. It is through the past, present and future that the charming protagonists of this title will have to fight to try to save the very factory of time. This title, which claims to be a successor to Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy, unfortunately does not yet have a release date. It is nevertheless possible to add the title to your wish list on Xbox console and PC (via Microsoft and Steam).
FragPunk
To conclude, shooter aficionados also had a pleasant surprise during the Xbox live. Expected at the turn by fans of the genre, the famous FragPunk gave us some news and will meet us very soon for a new closed beta session. Those interested can register today via the Xbox Insider application on their console, or via Steam for the PC version of the title. The test period will take place from October 11 at midnight (French time) to October 22 at 2 a.m. Overwatch and Valorant better watch out, because a new competitor is entering the ring.
