YouTube: The application automatically launches shorts? Here's how to remedy it

Are you tired of YouTube forcing its Shorts on you as soon as you open the app? You're not alone! An annoying bug is turning millions of users' experience into a marathon of unsolicited short videos. But don't despair, we have the solution to regain control of your news feed.

YouTube: The application automatically launches shorts? Here's how to remedy it

A persistent bug in the YouTube app causes the Shorts tab to open automatically upon launch, frustrating many users who prefer to go directly to their usual home page. This problem, which seems to have increased in recent weeks, mainly affects Android devices and affects both free users and Premium subscribers.

Initially, this behavior was observed only when the last user action concerned Shorts. However, the phenomenon has spread, and the application now systematically opens the Shorts tab, regardless of previous activity.

A temporary solution to regain control

Faced with this inconvenience, users are not completely helpless. Here are some steps to try to resolve the problem:

Clear the application's cache and data:

  • Go to your device's settings
  • Select "Applications" then "YouTube"
  • Choose "Storage" and click "Clear Cache" and "Clear Data"

Uninstall Updates:

  • In the Play Store, search for YouTube
  • Click the three dots next to the app
  • Select "Uninstall Updates"

It's important to note that these solutions are only temporary. The problem may reappear as soon as you open the Shorts tab again. Is this a simple technical error or a clumsy attempt to promote this format? The platform, which has invested heavily in developing this feature to compete with TikTok, has not yet officially communicated on this problem.

Until a definitive fix is available, users will have to be patient. If you are particularly bothered by this bug, you may want to consider temporarily using the web version of YouTube on your mobile browser, which is not affected by this problem. As YouTube seeks to establish itself in the short-form video space, this bug could paradoxically have the opposite effect and irritate users rather than attract them.
