YouTube has been testing a new, more affordable subscription plan for several months. Unlike the classic Premium offer, it focuses on a single benefit that is highly anticipated by users. Now, this service is officially launched in several countries and could well appeal to a wide audience.
For several years, YouTube has offered a Premium subscription that allows you to watch videos without advertising and access features like background playback and offline mode. But not everyone needs these extra options. That's why YouTube Premium Lite was tested in 2024. Now Google has made its launch official and expanded its availability to new markets.
Already rolled out in the United States, Germany, Thailand, and Australia, Premium Lite is available for $7.99 (around €7.50) per month. This offer allows you to watch the majority ad-free videos, while remaining more affordable than the classic Premium subscription, billed at €12.99 in France and $13.99 in the US. However, this stripped-down version does not include YouTube Music, offline mode, or background playback.
