Animal Crossing: New Horizons on Switch 2? Yes, but on one condition

You could almost believe it... The Nintendo Switch 2 presentation revealed a beach trailer that had everything to suggest a new Animal Crossing after New Horizons. But, no! It was ultimately the unexpected return of Tomodachi Life. However, fans of the Big N's coziest simulation can rest assured: their island adventure will not end with the new hybrid console. However, there are heavy conditions to accept.

Animal Crossing New Horizons on Nintendo Switch 2?

With the presentation of a new console, Nintendo fans could expect see the publisher-manufacturer's mascots take center stage. Certainly, several have shown their faces, like Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong. But, it is mainly titles from secondary licenses that have been unveiled alongside all the third-party games coming to Switch 2. No new Animal Crossing then.

Fans of this license which is a hit, in particular Animal Crossing New Horizons which pulverized the counters in 2020, will have to wait a little longer. Fortunately, the latest opus will be there to continue to occupy them. But, a question arises As the Nintendo Switch 2 release approaches: will we be able to continue our adventure that began on the first Switch?

It's official, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be backward compatible with games from the previous console. You will therefore be able to play on it with your Animal Crossing New Horizons Switch 1 cartridge. What's more, you will be able to find your island there. However, this implies one condition, and not an insignificant one. This is explained by developer Takuhiro Dohta: to continue your game on the new console, you will have to: a transfer:

The island[from Animal Crossing] will actually be moved. It will therefore leave the Nintendo Switch and be transferred to the Nintendo Switch 2.

Takuhiro Dohta, for Polygon.

As you will have understood, you will not be able to keep the same island on two consoles at the same time. Ultimately, nothing new under the sun. Nintendo has not changed its method since the launch of Animal Crossing New Horizons. In fact, you could already proceed to An island transfer between two Switch 1s. This is a way for the publisher to prevent saves from being lost in the wild. In a way, it preserves the immersion of players. But, we also say that this prevents some people from monetizing their creation, Nintendo fighting against these practices within the community.
