Apple could add a new photo feature to its upcoming iPhone 17 Pro. The problem? This feature has already existed on Android since 2013. A leak surrounding iOS 19 has rekindled the debate about "borrowed" new features.
With each iPhone release, Apple introduces new features that are supposed to improve everyday uses. But some so-called "new" features have often existed for years on Android. This gap regularly fuels comparisons between the two ecosystems. In 2025, this phenomenon could therefore be repeated with the iPhone 17 Pro expected at the start of the school year. This model would be the first from the brand to offer simultaneous video recording with the dual cameras.
According to a leak, this new feature would be one of the exclusive additions of iOS 19 on the Pro models. It would allow you to record simultaneously with both the front and rear cameras. A very useful feature for content creators, especially those who film reactions or interviews. The problem: this feature has already existed for over ten years. Samsung introduced it in 2013 with the Galaxy S4, under the name "Dual Shot". Since then, it has become common on Android.
The iPhone 17 Pro would film with two cameras at the same time... as on Android smartphones since 2013
Manufacturers like Samsung and Motorola have been offering this option on their phones for several years, including on models under 300 euros. On high-end Galaxy models, it has evolved under the name "Director's View", with the ability to switch between multiple sensors while recording. At Apple, this function has never been offered natively. If it arrives with iOS 19, it would remain exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, to reinforce the distinction with the standard models.
The leak also mentions visual changes in iOS 19: more rounded icons, new animations and a shine effect depending on the screen tilt. The first developer beta is expected for June, after WWDC 2025. The final version will be released in September. If Apple confirms the addition of dual video recording, this will enrich the photo functions, but it will not be an innovation. Rather, it will be a long-awaited upgrade for some loyal iPhone users.
