ASUS unveils one of the world's fastest displays with a 610Hz refresh rate

The majority of monitors aimed at the gaming market reach refresh rates of 240 Hz, but some models specifically designed for eSports boast much higher figures, such as the Zowie XL2586X+ with its 600 Hz. Let's move on to the real interest of such stratospheric values; Asus offers with its new ROG XG248Q5G-P one of the fastest 24-inch monitors in the world, with a maximum refresh rate peaking at 610 Hz.

A screen that prioritizes speed over other features

Based on a Super TN panel, this ROG XG248Q5G-P clearly prioritizes performance and responsiveness, to the detriment of other features. The native definition is thus limited to Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels), a mandatory choice to achieve high frame rates. The announced response time is only 0.1 ms, an extremely low value, perhaps a little optimistic. The ROG XG248Q5G-P also covers 90% of the DCI-P3 color space, a rather good result for a panel of this type and a gaming placement of the product.

Several refresh rate modes are available, ranging from 240 Hz to 480 Hz, with 610 Hz achievable through overclocking. Unsurprisingly, the monitor supports NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible and AMD FreeSync Premium adaptive synchronization technologies.

The manufacturer has also integrated several technologies to improve the visual experience. A dual backlight system is used to reduce motion blur while increasing brightness. The ROG XG248Q5G-P also benefits from AI Vision, a feature capable of automatically adjusting the image based on the displayed content. ROG Gaming AI software features are also present, allowing players to, for example, display a crosshair on the screen or improve the quality of dynamic shadows.

Without integrated speakers, which remains consistent with its philosophy of prioritizing pure performance, the ROG XG248Q5G-P is equipped a DisplayPort 1.4 input, an HDMI 2.1 input (no HDMI 2.2 unfortunately) and a 3.5mm audio connector to plug in your favorite headset. It also comes with a large adjustable mounting arm instead of the traditional stand. Clearly positioned on the high-end gaming market, this ultra-fast monitor is expected to be available in May at around $1,100. A high price for a Full HD screen, but at least partially justified. by its refresh rate and associated technologies.
