CMF Phone 2 Pro: Why this €249 smartphone risks shaking up the entire market?

CMF by Nothing, Nothing's accessibility-focused subsidiary brand, has just announced a wave of new products. Headlining the lineup is the CMF Phone 2 Pro, the successor to the brand's first smartphone, alongside three new in-ear earbuds: the CMF Buds 2, CMF Buds 2 Plus, and CMF Buds 2a.

Billed as the "ultimate everyday smartphone," the CMF Phone 2 Pro is a significant improvement over its predecessor. Nothing features a thinner (7.8 mm) and lighter (185 g) design, a 5% reduction in thickness compared to the CMF Phone 1. The design retains some elements of the first generation, such as the aluminum camera frame, but adds stainless steel screws and improves water resistance with an IP54 certification (vs. IP52). Four colors are offered: white (sandstone finish), black and light green (frosted glass back, metal frame), and a bolder metallic orange.

CMF Phone 2 Pro: a still flashy upgrade

In terms of photography, the CMF Phone 2 Pro integrates a triple camera system on the back. The 50MP main sensor is touted as the largest in its class, capturing 64% more light than the previous model. It's supported by a 50MP telephoto lens, very rare in this entry-level segment, allowing for 20x digital zoom, and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle. Up front, there's a 16MP front camera for selfies and video calls.

Under the hood, the brand opts for a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro 5G chip engraved in 4nm, promising 10% faster performance and 5% improved graphics compared to the CMF Phone 1. The 5000 mAh battery is said to offer nearly an hour of additional battery life, aiming for two days of use.

The screen is also upgraded with the integration of a 6.77-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel, capable of displaying 1.07 billion colors. Peak brightness reaches 3000 nits (50% more than the Phone 1) and the screen benefits from an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz and a touch sampling rate of 1000 Hz for increased responsiveness.

Notably, the CMF Phone 2 Pro finally gains NFC compatibility for contactless payments, a feature missing from the first model. Modularity is maintained with new accessories: universal case, interchangeable lenses (Fisheye, Macro) and a card holder/stand.
