Daredevil Born Again: We Finally Know the Real Villain (And You Should Have Seen It Coming)

Corrupt police officers clumsily espousing the Punisher's cause. Muse. The Task Force. And Wilson Fisk, of course. While some of these threats have been definitively eliminated (Muse) and others still loom, Daredevil Born Again had another villain, this one hidden yet present from the beginning of the series. It was a foregone conclusion, as the show had long shelved its very first twist: the tragic and shocking death of Foggy Nelson, Matt Murdock's associate and best friend, coldly shot by Bullseye.

Vanessa has always been in control

A hereditary enemy in the history of our vigilante lawyer, whom the public first discovered during season 3 of Daredevil. Benjamin Poindexter was a psychologically and emotionally unstable FBI agent known for his excellent marksmanship, who was manipulated by Wilson Fisk in an attempt to discredit Daredevil. Bullseye hadn't been seen since his arrest and trial in Born Again, and now he's back in the finale. Obviously, the maneuver is not without cost.

Episode 8, without going into details—which we logically expect for next week and the grand finale of the season—reveals part of the truth about Foggy's death and Bullseye's involvement. Between a confrontation between Poindexter and Matt Murdock in prison and a dance, a pretext for an important exchange, between the lawyer and Vanessa Fisk, we understand that Bullseye was hired by the Kingpin's wife to kill Foggy Nelson. While we don't know why the former painter called on Poindexter's services and allowed him to get out of prison, we can still guess its outlines.

The Fisks' Unwavering Love

At the end of season 3 of Daredevil, Matt, after getting the upper hand on Fisk, makes him promise not to try anything and to return to prison, or he will denounce Vanessa for the death of Agent Ray Nadeem. It's highly likely that she never forgave Daredevil for separating her from her husband, especially given her abandonment syndrome, developed in Born Again and which led to her strained relationship with her husband, who was guilty of casting her aside after her gunshot wound in Hawkeye.

If Wilson's love for Vanessa is immeasurable, it's the same in the other direction. Episode 7 and the way Vanessa manipulated Luca into getting rid of him is a case in point. The fact that it was Vanessa who coldly shot her lover, Adam, beaten for weeks by Fisk in episode 8, is another. Although it took her a long time to forgive him, both for his absence and his change of status, with the consequences that this had on the underworld business, Vanessa never stopped loving her husband.

As for Bullseye, he It is also highly likely that Benjamin Poindexter still holds a grudge against Fisk for breaking his spine, given that it is him, not Vanessa, that the sniper is targeting at the end of episode 8. What psychological state will Matt find himself in this season finale, having voluntarily taken a bullet instead of his best enemy? Will Heather, who was on the verge of learning her partner's secret identity, understand who Matt Murdock really is? Why did Vanessa use Bullseye to get to Daredevil? All these questions will hopefully be answered next Wednesday on Disney+, along with our overall review of the season.
