Donkey Kong: A surprise revealed early? Fans might love it

The Nintendo Switch 2 presentation allowed us to learn more about a whole series of expected information such as the price and release date of the console, the features and specifications of this machine, or even a first list of games including Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. Yes, the gorilla will finally make his return more than 11 years after the release of Tropical Freeze on Nintendo Switch. A brand new title that should surprise fans on one point.

A secret of Donkey Kong Bananza revealed by mistake?

Even though there was Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze HD and Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, it's been over a decade since fans have had a new game. While we'll have to wait and see if this adventure lives up to its promise, this installment may mark a turning point for the future of the series. After DK 64, this next title exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 will once again be fully 3D and will offer a completely destructible environment where the famous gorilla can use all his power to create new paths.

For the moment, Nintendo does not want to reveal the name of the studio responsible for Donkey Kong Bananza. "That's a very good question. So stay tuned! We always like to start by introducing the game, and getting people focused on the gameplay. But we will have information to share about the development studio in due course." So be patient...

However, a surprise for Donkey Kong Bananza has apparently been revealed early, and fans might love it. Indeed, on the game's official page, we can see an alternate version of the game's main illustration with a young girl clinging to the gorilla's red and yellow tie. Obviously, this is a younger version of Pauline, the mayor of New Donk City in Super Mario Odyssey, who also appeared in the 1981 Donkey Kong. Since this discovery, the visuals have been updated, which suggests that we may be facing a blunder of society. Will she be a playable character? A sidekick? Or will she just make an appearance during the unplayed sequences? Mystery... As a reminder, Donkey Kong Bananza will be one of the launch games for the Nintendo Switch 2 which will be available on July 17, 2025.
