Dragon Ball: 8 Characters Who Were Too Quickly Sidelined in the Anime

The Dragon Ball universe is rich in characters. As a result, some are less present than others, however, there are some who deserved not to be dismissed so quickly. This is the case for these eight characters.

Dragon Ball: 8 Characters Who Were Too Quickly Sidelined in the Anime

#1 Trunks

Dragon Ball: 8 Characters Who Were Too Quickly Sidelined in the Anime

His arrival against Frieza and King Cold made an impression, but in reality, it's his only memorable moment. Apart from warning our heroes of the cyborgs' arrival, he does nothing else. Against Cell, his new transformation proves useless, and during the Cell Game, he is eliminated by the villain. Vegeta's son serves primarily to help his father evolve. His role outside of combat is interesting, but we would have preferred him to have a more significant impact before returning to his timeline. He does return in Dragon Ball Super with an arc entirely dedicated to him, but once again, other characters take all the spotlight at the expense of Trunks.

#2 Uub

Dragon Ball: 8 Characters Who Were Too Quickly Sidelined in the Anime

Set five years after the end of DBZ, GT was an opportunity to see the fruits of Uub's training. Everyone expected him to take Goku's place, but that never happened. He had a big moment against Baby when he merged with Buu to become Majuub, but he quickly reverted to his secondary role. Although he participated in all the battles that followed, he simply remained a punching bag. It's a shame that Toei Animation didn't have faith in him.

#3 Jiren

Dragon Ball: 8 Characters Who Were Too Quickly Sidelined in the Anime

It might be a bit early to say that Jiren has been completely sidelined, but, in fact, it's already been seven years since he last appeared. This is a terrible realization for such a memorable character. He was the man to beat during the Tournament of Power, and was the goal for Goku and Vegeta to achieve. The problem is that with the arrival of Broly, Moro, Granolah, Gas, Cell Max, and especially Black Freeza, our interest in Jiren has drastically declined. We still hope to see him again later to see his physical and mental evolution, while crossing our fingers that he doesn't get relegated to the background.

#4 Dabra

Dragon Ball: 8 Characters Who Were Too Quickly Sidelined in the Anime

King of the Demons, Dabra was presented as a great threat and the symbol of Babidi's power. We got to see him in action against Gohan and... that's it. Buu literally makes short work of him. A disappointing treatment, especially since at the time he could give us information about the Demon Realm. DAIMA came to make up for it, but the anime was even more frustrating with the character. We were able to discover the Third Eye, a very powerful artifact which, in the hands of Dabra in DBZ, could have upset the events of the anime.

#5 Tenshinhan

Dragon Ball: 8 Characters Who Were Too Quickly Sidelined in the Anime

Among Goku's former enemies turned allies, Tenshinhan is undoubtedly the least well-off. After his victory at the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai, he becomes almost useless from the following arc. While he did have a few notable moments in Dragon Ball, he would have more than deserved a more prominent role. We would have liked to see him return to the forefront like Piccolo did during the Super Hero arc. He deserves it given his courage and self-sacrifice.

#6 Raditz

Dragon Ball: 8 Characters Who Were Too Quickly Sidelined in the Anime

Imagine a very important character who completely changes the perception we had of a universe, and who, moreover, is the brother of the hero. In any other manga, he would have had a central role, but not in Dragon Ball. Raditz's fate is quite tragic: he disappears as quickly as he appeared. Worse still, he is even humiliated with the entrance of Nappa and Vegeta. And yet, he had given Goku and Piccolo a hard time. It's a shame not to have seen him again, he who had enormous narrative potential.

#7 Zarbon and Dodoria

Dragon Ball: 8 Characters Who Were Too Quickly Sidelined in the Anime

These two characters are inseparable, as their destinies are so similar. As the people closest to Frieza, they could have posed a much more serious threat. This role was ultimately assigned to the Ginyu Commando, relegating the two companions to the background. Zarbon fared a little better, defeating Vegeta for the first time, but suffered the same fate as Dodoria. With such a powerful Frieza, one might have hoped that they would be worthy of their emperor.
