Ferrari is interested in the young Chinese brand Leapmotor: what's going on?

Leapmotor and Ferrari, hand in hand to develop a new electric platform? In Shanghai, as one of the biggest motor shows has just opened its doors, the CEO of the Italian brand, Benedetto Vigna, is continuing discussions that would have been unthinkable a few weeks ago. Ferrari is reportedly negotiating with the Chinese brand Leapmotor, which has a joint venture in Europe with Stellantis, for the development of a new electric platform. Enough to accelerate the pace, at any cost.

Ferrari is due to launch its first all-electric model in October of this year, after which it will begin developing a more comprehensive range. That said, such a rollout is expensive, and Leapmotor could come in and lend a hand with already available technologies. It's hard to know right now, as the only certainty is that Ferrari's CEO visited Leapmotor's facilities last February.

Reuters did, however, report that Ferrari was indeed in talks for a partnership aimed at the production of a new model based on Leapmotor's EV architecture.

A Leapmotor at 25,000 euros and a Ferrari at 500,000 euros

Until now, Leapmotor has remained fairly discreet in Europe, despite the arrival of a small, low-cost city car, the T03, with a very attractive offer compared to a Dacia Spring (at the same price). Under 25,000 euros, the electric car has made a name for itself, even if it remains very difficult to come across one on the streets. In the future, Leapmotor is counting on its joint venture with Stellantis to gain customer trust, even if the arrival of the recent C10, produced and imported from China, is divisive.

At Ferrari, in Maranello, the first electric model will cost more than 500,000 euros. Announced in 2021, it will borrow the lines of the Purosangue thermal SUV, but with a more compact size. The leaders of the Prancing Horse brand promise that the car will still offer a V8 sound on board, this time artificial, with a patented acoustic system.
