Free is launching a new discount offer at 24.99 euros, the Freebox Pop S. For this price, the idea is simple: you will get fiber without a TV option. A boon for those who don't want to use OQEE by Free, the operator's linear TV application.
In detail, you will have a Freebox Pop, fiber compatible of course, supporting the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard, as well as a Wi-Fi repeater. Be careful, however, the 6 GHz band is not included in Wi-Fi 7 on this offer.
Regarding speeds, they seem very good, with up to 5 Gb/s download speed, up to 900 Mb/s upload speed. As for applications, they are all included in the offer outside of OQEE (Freebox Connect, Files). However, you will not be able to subscribe to streaming services like Netflix or Disney+ via your Free offer, nor order an Apple TV 4K via the operator.
Fun fact: Free is offering another deal on its site with the venerable Freebox Revolution, without Wi-Fi 7 and with a speed of 1 Gb/s for 29.99 euros after one year. The latter should logically end up disappearing.
Delivery and installation are offered free of charge and this is a no-commitment offer, offered exclusively on the web. As spotted by Univers Freebox, migration from another Free offer is possible. The company writes: "Existing eligible subscribers will be informed by email or directly in their Subscriber Area of the possibility of switching to the Freebox Pop S."
A response to the B&You (Bouygues) Pure Fibre offensive and perhaps to Orange?
This new offer is an attempt to slow down B&You Pure Fibre, Bouygues' no-option discount offer, which must have hit hard, by offering up to 8 Gb/s download speed for €23.99. On paper, Bouygues is still ahead.
These offers are trying to reach a growing audience, not necessarily attached to the integration of a landline phone or a TV box in their internet subscription. These users often find themselves paying for these services.
Orange is also expected in this segment. The company will announce a new Livebox on April 10, 2025.
