The gatcha Genshin Impact is still as popular as ever 5 years after its launch! The reason for this success: engaging content that continues to grow. The miHoYo studio regularly offers new features, whether it's additional characters, events, or even gifts of all kinds. However, not everything is always rosy in Teyvat. A discovery has just taken the entire community by surprise.
An unexpected change on Genshin Impact
In recent days, Genshin Impact fans have been faced with some maintenance. But nothing to worry about! As usual, the miHoYo teams have been working on the gatcha phenomenon to prepare the ground for version 5.5. This will keep the entire community waiting for some new features that have already been leaked for 5.6.
However, this event could have been a complete celebration if the patch notes for this new version hadn't revealed an unexpected change for fans. In fact, we were able to read in the audio section that several characters have been recast for this new version. On one side, we have Ifa, whose Japanese voice is switching from Morikubo Shōtarō to Terashima Junta. On the other side, Kinich sees Jacob Takanashi succeed John Patneaude in the English version. The latter commented on the situation on social media.
It could have been good news: Kinich will once again be providing voice acting in Genshin Impact. He had remained silent since version 5.1. However, it will not be the original voice actor, John Patneaude, who will be taking over the dubbing duties. The actor shared his grief on social media, evoking his deep attachment to Genshin Impact, the "game that comforted him at the start of the pandemic."
But, even more so, it's the explanation for this change that's causing controversy. Patneaude says he was sidelined during the SAG AFTRA strike in 2023, launched in particular to protect the rights of audiovisual workers with regard to artificial intelligence. However, "Hoyo/Cognosphere did not offer protection against AI in line with the agreement proposed by SAG."
At a time when voices are being raised against the abuse of this technology in the industry, it is a decision that will certainly not be unanimous among fans. Moreover, it casts doubt on the use that the studio could make of artificial intelligence. What if AI ended up replacing actors in Genshin Impact?
