Google announces a major update to Gmail on iOS. The app finally adopts Material Design 3 and integrates useful new features. Here's everything coming to your iPhone this week.
For several years, Google has been gradually applying its Material Design 3 style to its main applications. This visual change, introduced with Android 12 in 2021, favors more dynamic interfaces, customizable and adapted to different devices. While Gmail on Android and on the web had quickly benefited from this evolution, the iOS version remained until now very close to its old design. Despite the importance of messaging on iPhone, it had not really evolved for several years.
Google is now announcing the official arrival of Material Design 3 on Gmail for iPhone. All Workspace and personal users will receive the update gradually starting this week. This new style brings more animations, rounded buttons, adjustable line weights, and better space management. Interface elements are getting larger and more adaptable, especially for newer screens like the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Gmail on iPhone adopts Material Design 3 and integrates event creation and Gemini AI
In addition to the new look, Gmail on iOS finally welcomes the creation and editing of birthday events directly from the app. This feature, available on Android since 2024, allows you to easily add contact-related reminders. Google is also enhancing its email service with a new integration of its Gemini artificial intelligence. Users subscribed to certain Workspace offers will be able to generate AI images, save them, copy them, or insert them directly into their email drafts from the mobile app.
Google specifies that the image generation features will be reserved for subscriptions such as Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise third parties, and Google One AI Premium. Only users who have activated the Gemini modules will be able to take advantage of them. At the same time, the company is rolling out other improvements to its tools like Vids and Slides, including advanced options for project management and presentation creation. With this series of updates, the company aims to make its applications more modern, more comprehensive, and to harmonize usage as much as possible between Android, iOS, and the web.
