Google is gradually improving its messaging app. A new feature currently in development will make it easier to add participants to groups. It will soon be possible to join a discussion with a simple link.
Group discussions have become essential for chatting with friends, organizing events or following family projects. On messaging apps, these groups form quickly, but adding them manually can be time-consuming and inconvenient. Other platforms, like WhatsApp or Telegram, already offer invitation links to simplify access. Google Messages finally seems to be following this path. A recent version of the Android app reveals a new interface dedicated to this feature. Although it is not yet active, analysis of the code clearly shows the first visual elements related to the link invitation. Google Messages will allow you to generate a unique URL or a QR code to share. These links will have a validity limited to 30 days, with the option to deactivate them at anytime.

The interface discovered in the latest test version shows a button to create a link and share it easily. A switch will allow you to choose one intended for a single person or reusable by multiple contacts. The system is designed to remain under control: in the event of abuse or unwanted distribution, the user can deactivate it from the application.
A recent leak had already revealed a complete overhaul of the Google Messages interface. It features more rounded text bubbles, card organization for contacts, simplified access to groups, and stronger integration of the Gemini AI. This facelift brings the application visually closer to WhatsApp, with smoother navigation.
These changes aim to make it more intuitive to use, while supporting the RCS protocol, already at the heart of the application, which allows the sending of enriched messages between Android users — and soon with iPhones, Apple has begun to adopt it in iOS 18. The link invitation system therefore completes this set of expected improvements. Its deployment is not yet dated, but everything indicates that it could arrive in the months to come.
