Google Photos is testing a small change for users with large smartphones

The Google Photos app could be getting a subtle interface overhaul by moving its search bar to the bottom of the screen. A change that seems insignificant, but which would greatly improve handling, especially for those who use their phone with one hand.

A more accessible search bar for all screens

In version 7.24.0.744869131 of Google Photos, lines of code suggest an evolution of the interface around search. Currently, the search bar is located at the top of the screen, which isn't always practical when trying to navigate with one hand on a large smartphone. The change Google is testing aims to Reposition this bar at the bottom of the screen, in an area more easily accessible with the thumb.

Another interesting change: currently, once you launch a search in Google Photos, it is impossible to start a new one from the results page. You must return to previous screen. The new interface corrects this ergonomic flaw: the search bar would remain visible and active on the results page, so that a query could be relaunched instantly.

Although still experimental, and therefore available to the general public, these small changes demonstrate Google's desire to optimize the search experience on Google Photos. It remains to be seen whether these new features will make it past the testing stage to be integrated into a future stable update of the application. We hope so.
