Google is rolling out a number of new features for its mobile apps. The Mountain View company has just announced the arrival of five new features for its applications. Among these, Google is offering a refresh of the Gmail interface for iOS and the ability to create birthdays in Google Calendar on the iPhone.
New features in the Gmail mobile app
To begin its project, Google is tackling its Gmail app for iOS. The company has indicated Google is rolling out "a refreshed look and feel for the Gmail mobile app on iOS devices." Specifically, Google says it has brought the Gmail interface for iPhone into line with its Material Design 3 codebase, for greater consistency with the Gmail interface on the web and Android.
Another new feature coming imminently to Gmail is the ability to generate images using Gemini directly from the sidebar on the mobile app. The feature, which was already available in the web versions of Workspace applications will now also be usable from the mobile version of Gmail. Please note, however, that this feature will not be accessible to all users. To take advantage of it, you will need to be a Google Workspace subscriber with a Business Starter, Standard and Plus, Enterprise Starter, Standard and Plus or Google One AI Premium plan.
Finally, on devices with a large screen, it will now be possible to drag the window separator which allows you to divide the view between the list of received messages and the message preview pane. A new feature offered in both the Gmail inbox and from Google Chat.
Google celebrates birthdays in Calendar on iOS and optimizes the Google Vids timeline
Gmail isn't the only app to benefit from new features. On iOS, Google Calendar will finally be able to create and edit birthday events. A feature that has already existed for several months on Android.
Finally, Google Vids, Google's video editing app, will benefit from a significant optimization of its timeline for paying Workspace customers. To facilitate editing, it is now possible to adjust the height of the Timeline, which allows you to better visualize the elements present on the different audio and video tracks you are working on.
