What if Google Translate saved you from having to copy and paste each translation into your browser? Soon, a single click will be enough to search for "library" in Swedish or "lawyer" in Japanese... without leaving the app.
Google Translate is about to simplify the lives of unpredictable polyglots. A new feature, spotted in the code of version 9.7.102 of the app by Android Authority, will allow you to launch a search directly from the translated text. No more tab switching: a magic button will do the job.
Currently, when you translate a word, Google offers to copy it... and that's it. The update will add a "G" button next to it, like a shortcut to Google Search. Click it, and presto: the results will appear in the target language. Example: translate "chatbot" in Hindi, tap the button, and discover local articles about AI.

Search without borders (or copy and paste)
According to manual tests carried out by journalists who had access to the feature in advance, this button opens the results either in the Google app or in the default browser. It is still unclear how the app chooses one or the other. The official release date is also a mystery, but the code is present. We should therefore be entitled to it within a few weeks, or even a few months, like certain features that are slow to be deployed on the stable versions of the applications.

This new option could revolutionize language learning. Imagine: translating "revolutionary" into Chinese, then exploring its real-life use in one gesture. Enough to largely compete with certain applications like Duolingo, since learning a language at Google Translate's help could well become a reality.
It remains to be seen whether Google will avoid the pitfalls of false friends. In the meantime, globetrotters and curious linguists have reason to be impatient. We will obviously keep you informed as soon as this new feature is rolled out to all users.
