What new missions will Rockstar concoct for GTA 6, whose hype is growing as 2025 rolls by? Thanks to its new game engine and after several years of active development, GTA VI is expected to revolutionize the approach to GTA-like gameplay and offer a unique gaming experience. But the studio could look in the rearview mirror and revisit some of the most iconic missions from its franchise.
Five missions we'd like to see again in GTA 6
In around ten games and more than 700 missions, the GTA franchise has offered players some memorable moments. Robberies, car chases, plane or helicopter flights, clashes between rival gangs, not a single game in the Rockstar franchise misses out on these types of sequences that immerse the player in its merciless universe and require a certain dexterity to overcome them. As the release of GTA 6 slowly but surely approaches, we take stock of these most epic missions from older titles that deserve to be revisited with the Rage 9 engine and the expertise acquired by the New York company over decades of experience.
#5 Three Leaf Clover - GTA IV
Certainly one of the best heist missions in the franchise. In GTA 4 (2008), Niko Bellic (you) is tasked by the McReary clan to rob the Liberty City bank, along with several members of the Irish mafia. Of course, not everything goes as planned. One of the men is shot dead, before the FBI and Liberty City Police join forces to arrest you. A chase ensues through the city's alleyways and into the subway station. A superbly staged scene in several settings where the player is constantly cornered by the authorities. There's no respite, where the feeling of submersion quickly overwhelms that of ease with heavy weapons.
A classic among classics, the bank robbery will undoubtedly be part of GTA 6. But how can we avoid repetition? Thanks to its game engine and dynamic environments, Rockstar has what it takes to make its mission more immersive and cinematic. The variety of environments in Vice City could take the player to several terrains, and the escape through different means of transport. Why not a boat chase in the middle of the swamps? Or even better, on the rooftops of the city in the middle of the night with FIB helicopters on our tail? The expected game performance and lighting should make it possible to achieve something never before seen in the franchise.
#4 End of the Line - GTA San Andreas
End of the Line marks the epilogue of GTA San Andreas. A final and epic mission as we like them: long, intense, difficult, with endless enemies, and an climax where all the traitors and villains answer for their crimes. Our protagonist C.J. manages to get revenge on his old friend Big Smoke after storming a huge building full of enemies on several floors, then incapacitating a corrupt cop in a thrilling chase.
When the game was released in 2004, this mission was a real feat. In 2025, Rockstar could give us a real treat in a more story-driven and larger-scale assault. Luckily, the game will allow us to play as two characters (Jason and Lucia). Enough to organize a simultaneous attack and play on the relay between the two protagonists, for more realism.
#3 Demolition Man - GTA Vice City
This mission is still etched in the memory of those who played the title released in 2002. At a time when drones were not as sophisticated, the mission required you to control a small radio-controlled helicopter, retrieve bombs and place them in strategic locations of a building under construction, all within a given time. A real feat required of players who struggled more than a hair in front of the complexity of the mission and the control of the vehicle, which was quite improvable.
A mission that would make perfect sense in the current decade. With the technologies available in terms of attack, reconnaissance, and cybersecurity, a Demolition Man 2.0 would be an opportunity to pilot a drone and generate an arsenal of gadgets around it to create coherence.
#2 Doberman - GTA San Andreas
The story of GTA San Andreas being built around a permanent gang war in Los Santos, many missions involve the player in clashes against the Ballas and other enemy gangs in the control of strategic points of the city. Whether by car, motorcycle, or even on foot, when small side missions asked you to monitor acquired territories so as not to get them stolen, and - if not - to retake them. The mission Doberman was the perfect example. You had to retake a territory conquered by the Ballas by surviving several successive waves of enemies armed to the teeth.
If GTA IV and GTA V abandoned the system of conquering territories, the return of the license to Vice City is a godsend to bring this concept appreciated by fans up to date. On a more detailed and dynamic map, the evolving system of zone control would therefore be richer and more lively. We imagine neighborhoods that evolve according to alliances and power grabs both online and offline. Also, with potentially destructible environments and a more sophisticated AI organizing ambushes or counterattacks, the mission could turn into a real dynamic urban warfare evolving as the player progresses through the story.
#1 Friend Request - GTA V
Far from robberies, gang wars or car chases, the mission Friend Request invited Michael, controlled by the player, to infiltrate the headquarters of the social network LifeInvader (a parody of Facebook) and sabotage a smartphone prototype. Twelve years later, AI has progressed, social networks have evolved and are more intrusive than ever. Just like the concept of digital surveillance. The rise of modern technology is a strong argument for Rockstar to push an interesting infiltration mission even further.
