All eyes are on GTA 6. The game will redefine the face of the industry, which means that both developers and players are eagerly awaiting its release. However, it's important to remember that other games exist. We recommend seven that will keep you waiting until the release of Rockstar's behemoth.
#1 Assassin's Creed Shadows (2025)
Assassin's Creed Shadows is the game of the moment. It wasn't a given given the controversy, but the latest installment in Ubisoft's cult franchise has won over players. You might also be tempted by this RPG set in feudal Japan, which will offer many long hours of change of scenery before returning to the beach and the asphalt. Note that the title is also accessible to those who have never played an Assassin's Creed, as the meta-story has been almost completely removed, much to the dismay of long-time fans.
#2 GTA: Vice City (2002)
Vice City will finally be visible in high definition with GTA 6. To prepare for it and get your bearings, what better way to explore it than in GTA: Vice City. Set in the 80s, this will be the perfect opportunity to see the city's evolution. Aside from the discovery aspect, you'll experience a superb adventure inspired by Scarface and Miami Vice in a unique atmosphere. However, we don't recommend playing the version available in GTA: The Trilogy, which is pretty bad.
#3 Sleeping Dogs (2012)
There are plenty of GTA-like games, but one of the most underrated is Sleeping Dogs. The game will take you on a very gripping adventure with the Hong Kong triads. Even though there was no sequel, a movie is in the works starring Simu Liu. Playing this game will be very useful to you and might encourage the developers to get their hands on it again. However, don't launch it on PS5, as the game has many problems on this console.
#4 Kingdom Come: Deliverance II (2025)
Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2 is a benchmark in open-world games. Almost no one can hold a candle to it, even seven years after its release. However, that doesn't mean there haven't been advances in the genre. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is the best open-world game to date. It's even possible that GTA 6 doesn't go as far as it does in terms of possibilities, which is a testament to the quality of the title.
#5 L.A. Noire (2011)
Rockstar hasn't always put us in the shoes of criminals. In L.A. Noire, we control Cole Phelps, an inspector solving investigations in 1940s Los Angeles. It's a unique game and way ahead of its time. It's one of Rockstar's rare gems that we would love to see a sequel to.
#6 The Mafia Saga
Mafia is a legendary franchise that has managed to break free from GTA. Indeed, the games are linear even though the world is open. The most important thing here is the storyline, and it really feels like living the storyline of the great films of the genre. It must be admitted, however, that the third installment is the ugly duckling of the saga because of its bugs, but you will probably be able to find something you like there. Finally, Mafia: The Old Country will be released this summer and will help you pass the time before a fall that is also likely to be hot with GTA 6.
#7 The Precinct (2025)
The first GTA games did not resemble the current ones at all. Indeed, the camera was in a top-down view, which changes everything. The formula has not disappeared, however, and The Precinct, which will be released on May 13, is proof of this. The game will give you the best possible experience of an old GTA, a good step back in time before tasting the new.
