Here's what Apple has in store for the iPhone with the iOS 18.5 update

While waiting for iOS 19, the iOS 18.5 update is still in development and scheduled for deployment in the coming weeks. Here are the new features we should be able to expect on our iPhones.

Here's what Apple has in store for the iPhone with the iOS 18.5 update

The update to iOS 18.4 was made available a few weeks ago, and eyes are now on iOS 18.5. Apple has rolled out the third beta version of this version to developers, giving us a good indication of the new features to come soon.

The first major change spotted concerns the Settings app. The AppleCare+ banner located there, at the top of the screen, is gaining visibility. In addition, for each registered product In the Apple Account section of Settings, new information about the warranty program is displayed. The company is clearly trying to promote its service in order to get more subscriptions. For users who are not interested, this advertisement may raise eyebrows.

iOS 18.5, a light appetizer before iOS 19

Another change brought by iOS 18.5 is the ability to disable contact photos in your Mail inbox. The option is found by tapping the menu icon (the three dots) at the top right of Mail, then selecting “Show contact photos”. The feature isn't new, but it's becoming more accessible. It was previously hidden deep within the app's settings.

For the rest, we'll be treated to the usual bug fixes and system optimizations. In France specifically, we hope that the update will finally make it possible to convert a SIM card to an eSIM on iPhone, for Free Mobile customers, who are currently deprived of this function. Free Mobile subscribers could also access 5G+ thanks to iOS 18.5, while many Android smartphones are already compatible.

iOS 18.5 will therefore be a minor update, with Apple focusing its efforts on iOS 19. This version will be presented on June 9, 2025, at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Developer previews will be published shortly afterward, allowing us to learn even more about the new features of this version, which will be released in September with the iPhone 17.
