“Humans are idiots,” Apple TV+ is already returning to science fiction

After the dystopian Silo, the ambitious epic Foundation and the UFO Severance, Apple TV+ hopes to keep its new critical success (the audience figures aren't there yet) with Murderbots. This time, the American platform is tackling a work by Marta Wells, author of novels from the Star Wars and Stargate universes. Published in 2018, Murderbot was one of the biggest audio novel successes upon its release, and this success hasn't faded. on deaf ears. In France, the saga is published under the title Journal d’un AssaSynth and recounts several of its hero's adventures. It is the first volume, Défauillances systèmes, which seems to have interested the writers of this adaptation.

The story follows Murderbot, a security android who is both horrified by humans and their emotions and fascinated by their vulnerability. When he manages to To break free from his software limitations, he must hide his newfound free will to carry out a perilous mission. Except that he... “wants nothing more than to stay in his corner watching futuristic soaps and thinking about his place in the universe”. A machine that rebels and “idiot” humans, Murderbot promises to be an explosive and surprising mix of genres. A comedy and a futuristic epic, Murderbot could well be our next favorite in the platform's catalog.

Alexander Skarsgård at the top of his game?

To lead this project, Apple TV+ has called on Alexander Skarsgård. The actor will play the role of the security unit. He will play opposite Noma Dumezweni (Presumed Innocent), David Dastamalchian (The Suicide Squad), Sabrina Wu (Joy Ride), Akshaye Khanna, and Tattiawna Jones (The Handmaid’s Tale). Chris and Paul Weitz are creating the adaptation, while Alexander Skarsgård is producing. The author isn’t far behind either, having served as a consultant and producer. Paramount Television is also involved.

Ten episodes are scheduled for this adaptation. The first three will be available starting May 16. After that, it will be one episode per week until the conclusion on July 11.
