Illegal IPTV: Pirates can now be blocked in just 15 minutes and that could change everything

La Liga is refining its methods to combat illegal broadcasts of its matches. Thanks to unprecedented cooperation with a technical service provider, certain pirated streams can now be identified and cut in just a few minutes. Speed unprecedented that could well transform the way sports rights are protected online.

Illegal IPTV: Pirates can now be blocked in just 15 minutes and that could change everything

For several months, Spain has been leading a particularly offensive aggressive crackdown on illegal IPTV. LaLiga, which holds the broadcasting rights to the Spanish football league, has received judicial authorization to block thousands of IP addresses every weekend. This operation aims to prevent the pirate retransmission of its live matches. So far, this strategy has been accompanied by numerous criticism, particularly due to the overblocking of perfectly legal sites. Online services unrelated to piracy have been inaccessible to thousands of users.

But one change may well improve the situation. A CDN service provider, CDN77, has agreed to work directly with LaLiga. When an illegal stream is detected, the company is able to isolate and cut it in just 15 minutes, without the need for a court order each time. This speed of action represents a significant step forward in the face of pirates who are often difficult to track.

LaLiga manages to cut certain IPTV streams in just 15 minutes thanks to CDN77

Unlike other players like Cloudflare, often accused of not cooperating, CDN77 offers an immediate technical solution: remove the offending IP, replace it, and cut the stream. This method allows to react in the middle of a match, where traditional blocking systems are slower and less precise. For LaLiga, this also avoids blocking hundreds of unaffected sites sharing the same IP address. The goal is to act quickly without affecting the infrastructure that hosts legitimate services.

But it's not all that simple. According to network experts, LaLiga has still blocked some CDN77 IP addresses, despite the agreement in place. A decision that has revived criticism of the lack of transparency and the risk of overblocking. If the 15-minute method really works, it could become a model for other sports leagues and content platforms to follow. It is still necessary that the logic of cooperation takes precedence over automatic disconnection. In total, at the end of the week, less than 3 million dominions were blocked, between them there were 14,950 national dominions, and between them, 506 crystals.
