This is the ultimate epilogue of the LG adventure in the smartphone market. The Korean manufacturer, which never lacked imagination or ambition during the heyday when it wanted to compete with its great rival Samsung, gave up in April 2021 by announcing its withdrawal from the sector. Despite its efforts, LG had not been able to increase its market share in the face of the Chinese onslaught.
The discontinuation of smartphones, however, did not mean that LG was going to abandon its users by the wayside. The manufacturer continued to deliver updates. software updates, especially security updates. But that too will soon end. The company will shut down the servers deploying updates on June 30, reports Android Authority.
After that date, LG smartphones will no longer be able to download new software. Which means if you have a device from the brand lying around in a drawer, it's worth dusting it off to get the latest, most up-to-date version of Android. It's best to avoid unpleasant security surprises, for example.
LG will also be pulling the plug on the Bridge software for Windows, which allows you to backup and restore one of its smartphones, as well as update it. None of this is surprising, but a forewarned user is worth two.
