According to an employee of the social network Instagram, Meta is preparing to launch an iPad app. Surprisingly, there hasn't been one in 15 years.
Better late than never. A well-known adage that today applies perfectly to the social network Instagram. But not because it has just announced the arrival of a feature that everyone has been waiting for for a long time. A little flashback. Instagram was launched in 2010, and while for many it is associated with Facebook, it wasn't until 2012 that the platform was acquired by Mark Zuckerberg's group.
Since then, the application has become a mere shadow of what it was all those years ago, which the majority of users consider a good thing. It has gained Instagram offers many features, often copied from its competitors (Reels, Stories, etc.) and has managed to stay up-to-date by regularly modernizing its interface. However, for almost 15 years, something has been missing: an Instagram app on iPad.
An Instagram app for iPad is reportedly in the works, after a 15-year wait
Internet users have often asked why it doesn't exist. In 2020, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, explained that the service lacked the staff to dedicate itself to developing a dedicated app. Two years later, the story has changed. This time, it's because there aren't enough people on iPads to justify investing time and money in it. The result remains the same, though.

It's therefore very surprising to learn that finally, an Instagram app specifically adapted for iPads is in the works. Currently, it's the same as on iPhone, which means it displays with large black bars on Apple's tablets.
This change of attitude is not innocent. This is likely Meta's attempt to position its pawns before a possible permanent ban of TikTok in the United States. If that happens, the group wants as many of the left-behind as possible to fall back on Instagram. It's worth remembering that Snapchat launched its iPad app last year, 13 years after its iPhone launch.
