Free presented its new Freebox Pop S yesterday, Tuesday, April 8, 2025. A cheap fiber box at €24.99 that makes some concessions, particularly regarding the reimbursement of termination fees requested by your current operator.
An attractive Freebox Pop S on paper
With its new Freebox Pop S, Free is clearly targeting consumers who primarily want a fast internet connection at an attractive price, without the hassle of a landline or TV options. For €24.99 per month, you have the right to: Wi-Fi 7 and maximum speeds of 5 Gb/s download and 900 Mb/s upload. Enough to appeal to those who have already switched to streaming platforms or who no longer wish to pay for a TV offer they no longer use.
Free is thus trying to position itself as a serious alternative to Bouygues Telecom and its very aggressive B&You Pure fiber offer at €23.99 per month. With only a one-euro difference between the two operators, the Freebox Pop S has nothing to be ashamed of. But while the price is attractive, the devil is in the details.
No refund for termination fees
Unlike its other Freeboxes or competing offers from SFR, Orange or Bouygues, the Freebox Pop S does not benefit from any refund of termination fees. Free clearly states on its website: new customers will have to cover this cost themselves, which continues to rise.
Today, leaving Bouygues Telecom will cost you €69, compared to €59 at SFR. Orange is currently more aggressive in this area with a €50 rate. These amounts, although predictable, can be a deterrent for those considering changing operators.
Especially since most competing offers continue to offer reimbursements of up to €100 to limit friction as much as possible. By not playing this incentive card, Free runs the risk of discouraging some subscribers ready to take the plunge.
