Many users are experiencing battery issues with their Pixel 7a. Faced with the increasing number of cases, Google has decided to expand its repair program. But be careful, you can claim it under certain conditions.
Launched in September 2023, the Pixel 7a is a mid-range smartphone with excellent value for money. However, the device is not without its flaws, start with a slightly too pronounced heating and a fairly average autonomy.
Nothing insurmountable at first glance... Nevertheless, and for several weeks, many owners have reported major problems with the battery of their device. Faced with the increase in complaints, Google has decided to react on its official technical support website. In an article published this Wednesday, April 23, 2025, the manufacturer claims to have “determined that the battery of some Pixel 7a phones could swell unexpectedly”.

Google supports Pixel 7a with battery swelling issues
To help affected customers, the Mountain View firm has therefore extended its repair program dedicated to the Pixel 7a. Through this procedure, users can claim a free battery replacement or another form of compensation from Google. Concretely, this involves:
If your device is no longer under warranty
- a payment of $200 (converted into euros in France) if your device is no longer under warranty
- a voucher of $300 (converted into euros in France) valid on the Pixel Store for the purchase of another Pixel smartphone
If your device is still covered
- a payment of $456 (converted into euros in France)
How do you know if your smartphone is affected?
One question nevertheless arises: How do you know if your smartphone is affected by this problem? According to Google, there are three symptoms of battery swelling:
- Visible swelling of the device: The phone appears thicker than usual and the back panel bulges
- The back panel bulges or is detached from the device: This is noticeable by gaps or openings on the edge of the phone
- The phone's battery drains significantly fasteror no longer charges
Please note, Google specifies that each device eligible for a free battery replacement will be inspected before the repair begins. Therefore, if it has out-of-warranty damage, such as cracks on the screen or protective glass, additional fees will apply.
