She is one of the most mysterious and fascinating characters in The Lord of the Rings: Galadriel. While we shared with you here 7 facts that you might not know about this formidable Elf with long blond hair, today we compare the three versions of the heroine. Between the one from Peter Jackson's main trilogy, that of The Hobbit and that of The Rings of Power, which one is the most powerful? Let's take stock.
Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings
Played by Cate Blanchett, Galadriel from The Lord of the Rings is also the most famous. At the time of her encounter with the Fellowship of the Ring, the lady of the woods of Lothlórien, which she rules with her husband Celeborn, is presented as a secondary character, but of capital importance within the story. She is an almost omniscient being of light, capable of knowing what will or could happen, but also what has already happened. She penetrates hearts and souls through telepathy, and her Ring of Power allows her to protect her Kingdom from the evil forces of Sauron. Her strength of character is such that she manages to push back the hold of the One Ring. Galadriel in The Hobbit One of the most powerful appearances of Galadriel is in The Battle of the Five Armies, when she comes in person to rescue Gandalf, imprisoned in the sinister fortress of Dol Guldur. The Elf uses her Ring of Power, Nenya, to repel the Orcs, then carries the magician away in her arms. Soon surrounded by the Nazgûl, she sends her friend to take refuge with Radagast, and when Sauron appears, she manages to push him back into the darkness. She is thus both unexpectedly powerful physically (she carries Gandalf as if he were a 4-kilogram baby) and colossally powerful magically (she sweeps away the forces of Evil without flinching). For a brief moment, Galadriel is shown as a menacing specter, like a witch. It's a passage fictionalized by Peter Jackson, and which hasn't convinced all fans...
Galadriel in The Rings of Power
Morfydd Clark's Galadriel in the Prime Video series is not unanimously appreciated, particularly because of its problems of continuity and consistency with Tolkien's work. Regarding her powers, the Elf is rather shown as a fierce warrior, brave and courageous, determined to make light triumph over darkness, but too impulsive, thoughtless and naive. She is fooled by Sauron, who disguises himself as a man named Halbrand, with whom she falls more or less in love (the plot leaves some doubt about the true nature of Galadriel's feelings). Tempted by the Dark Lord, more seductive than ever in the guise of actor Charlie Vickers, she nevertheless manages to refuse him an alliance. Very athletic, she is an excellent fighter. She is feared by her enemies. It is also at this time that she obtains the Ring Nenya. This portrayal of the character is a far cry from the Enchantress from The Lord of the Rings and her incredible powers.
Which Galadriel is the strongest?
From our perspective, it's the one from The Lord of the Rings: it's the version closest to the one described in Tolkien's work, but it's also the one with the most impressive powers. She draws her strength from the forest of Lórien, which she is able to keep hidden from Sauron's eyes. It is also at this advanced stage of her life (an age that her appearance does not betray) that she resists the lure of the One Ring when it is presented to her by Frodo. Few characters are capable of this.
And you, what do you think?
