Marvel: 15 mutants to replace Charles Xavier as leader of the X-Men

This isn't the first time Charles Xavier has left the X-Men. Whether by force, because he's died, or simply because he's tired of leading the mutants, Charles Xavier sometimes abandons leadership of the X-Men. In these cases, he obviously needs a replacement. Recently, in the Marvel comics, Charles Xavier decided to leave Earth to find his wife, Lilandra Neramani. Readers also learned that Professor X has a daughter: Xandra. When she's in danger, he decides to go to her rescue, leaving the X-Men without a guide. Here are 15 mutants who could take over the X-Men during Charles Xavier's absence.

15) Psylocke

Created in 1976 by Chris Claremont, Psylocke is a somewhat ambiguous heroine. Betsy Braddock really came into her own in 1986 when she joined the X-Men. Psylocke, played by Olivia Munn in X-Men: Apocalypse, is also famous for being the sister of Captain Britain. This Omega-level mutant is a telepathic ninja warrior who has almost no limits in expressing her powers. A member of the X-Force, Psylocke would make an excellent leader of the X-Men thanks to her natural leadership, her iron fist, and a strong emotional detachment.

14) Forge

Created in 1984 by Chris Claremont and John Romita Sr., Forge is a Cheyenne mutant with exceptional creative talent. Initially, he was supposed to become a shaman within his tribe. But he preferred to join the U.S. Army. Sent to Vietnam, he was promoted to sergeant, before being recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. Wounded during his exploits, Forge uses his powers to create cybernetic limbs. Forge can subconsciously design the plans for any mechanical machine he thinks of. The technology used is at the cutting edge of progress and the resources at his disposal. He also possesses knowledge in occult and mystical arts, such as opening dimensional portals or detecting spirits. Finally, of course, his prosthetics are decorated with all kinds of gadgets. The X-Men's Tech Guy has ample opportunity to lead the team in Xavier's absence. In addition to designing the X-Men's equipment, improving Cerebro, and creating defenses for young mutants, Forge has an intuitive mind. Sometimes withdrawn from the action, he would be a leader full of wisdom, kindness, and understanding, capable of helping others.

13) Cable

Nathan Summers could also be a possible leader of the X-Men. The son of Scott Summers was created in 1986 by Chris Claremont. Played by Josh Brolin in Deadpool 2, Cable is a tortured but extremely competent character. His countless time travels have taught him a lot about the past, the present, and the possible future. Courageous, he doesn't hesitate to sacrifice himself to oppress them. And after all, he is the son of Cyclops and Jean Grey!

12) Iceberg

Of course, you especially remember Shawn Ashmore's performance in the original X-Men trilogy. But, in the comics, Bobby Drake has grown up. Created in 1963 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Iceman is one of the original X-Men. He has experience, and he has every right to become the new leader of the mutants. After all, he has seen it all, faced it all, and survived it all. He has worked with the greatest X-Men in history, starting with Charles Xavier.

11) Angel

Warren Worthington is also an original X-Men. Created in 1963 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Warren is rich, very rich. A financial wealth that would allow him to contribute a lot to the X-Men. Charismatic and selfless, Angel would be a born leader to lead the X-Men. Also a member of X-Factor, he has the necessary experience for this leadership position.

10) Kitty Pryde

Played by Elliot Page in the original trilogy, Kitty Pryde is an iconic character from the X-Men. Created in 1980 by Chris Claremont, Kitty, aka Shadowcat, has the ability to pass through any solid matter. She is a deeply good heroine, capable of questioning herself and learning from her mistakes. She has already led the X-Men in the past with great success.

9) Nightcrawler

Far too often, Nightcrawler plays a supporting role to the X-Men. Yet, Kurt Wagner has been in the Marvel landscape since 1975. Conceived by Len Wein, Nightcrawler is a character extremely beloved by fans. Extremely kind and courageous, he is capable of the greatest exploits in the name of the mutant race. Idealist, dreamer, believer, Kurt has the intellectual and emotional qualities to become the leader of the X-Men.

8) Emma Frost

Emma Frost is a much more ambiguous heroine than the others. Created in 1980 by Chris Claremont, Emma Frost has worked with all sides of the mutant race. A member of the Hellfire Club, the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and the X-Men, she has been on all sides. Although it is sometimes difficult to trust her, this ability to change sides gives her a complete and comprehensive vision of the mutant problem. She is capable of reflection but is in no way afraid of conflict. Her relationships with Charles Xavier, Sebastian Shaw, and Magneto have given her different visions, different emotions, different points of view, and a more complete capacity for reflection than most other mutants.

7) Tornade

Created in 1975 by Len Wein, Tornade is an iconic mutant from the X-Men franchise. Portrayed by Halle Berry in the original trilogy, Storm is an Omega level mutant. Extremely powerful, Ororo has always been loyal to the mutant race and has lived through so many adventures that she could easily take over as leader of the X-Men. Her good relationship with T’Challa allows the X-Men to gain significant support from Wakanda. And politically, this is clearly not insignificant. She was also previously leader of the X-Men in the 1990s, which gives her additional experience for the position.

6) Beast

Henry McCoy is a historical supporter of Charles Xavier. Created in 1963 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Beast is one of Charles's best friends, and an original X-Men. His incredible intelligence, his skin-deep kindness, his brilliant inventions, and his protectionism toward younger people make McCoy the definite leader of the X-Men.

5) Jean Grey

Also created in 1963 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Jean Grey is an iconic heroine of the X-Men franchise. Although Jean has had periods of intense turmoil, notably when she was possessed by the Phoenix Force, she is arguably the most powerful mutant in the entire Marvel Universe (along with The Scarlet Witch, Apocalypse and Legion). And at a time when mutants are particularly hated, putting Jean Grey at the head of the X-Men would send a clear and powerful message: one of the strongest creatures on planet Earth is at the head of the mutant race!

4) Wolverine

Created in 1974 by Len Wein, Logan would be a good leader of the X-Men. He even, in the past, created his own school for mutants when Cyclops inherited the X-Men after the disappearance of Charles Xavier. Despite his bestial and gruff side, Logan is a touching, intelligent character, who always knows how to put the youngest and the mutant race first.

3) Rogue

Created in 1981 by Chris Claremont, Rogue has become over the years a fundamental X-Woman. She is an independent character capable of defending her own convictions. She has always had the intelligence to oppose certain decisions of Charles Xavier and to rally to Magneto when necessary. Smarter than most of the other X-Men, she would be a perfect leader to lead the mutants to success.

2) Cyclops

Cyclops is obviously Xavier's protégé. Created in 1963 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Scott Summers has always been Professor X's right-hand man. He has a true admiration for his mentor and has perpetuated his way of thinking and operating over time. A leader incarnate, he is the one who leads the X-Men in the field. And he has already been the leader of the X-Men on many occasions in the past.

1) Magneto

Ultimately, the leader chosen to take over the X-Men is obviously Magneto. Created in 1963 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, he has often been the sworn enemy of the X-Men over time, but remains undoubtedly the best friend of Charles Xavier. And then, in recent years, Erik Lehnsherr has been more ambiguous, more reasoned, more thoughtful. His self-sacrifice for the mutant race is no longer in doubt, and his methods have calmed down a little. Over the years, Magneto has become a strong ally of the X-Men, and even led them.
