While Dwayne Johnson has portrayed Black Adam for DC, he has never played a Marvel character. Now that Dwayne Johnson is working on the live-action version of Moana, Disney could potentially consider offering him a role as a Marvel character. This could be a way for Johnson to bounce back into the superhero universe after the financial and critical failure of Black Adam. Here are 15 Marvel characters who would be perfect for Dwayne Johnson.
15) Annihilus
What if Dwayne Johnson took on the role of a supervillain? And not just any villain. This extra-dimensional insectoid is one of the most powerful Marvel villains in the entire House of Ideas. Annihilus lives in a dark and devastated parallel dimension. With his army of insects, he regularly seeks to conquer our dimension. Often, it is the Fantastic Four who oppose him!
14) Atlas
Atlas is a bit like an alternative version of Ant-Man. A former mercenary and smuggler, Erik Josten later sided with the good side of the line. Atlas has the ability to change size and reach a height of 30 meters. Somewhere between Goliath and Ant-Man, he's not the most famous character in the Marvel stable, but Dwayne Johnson could give him a little light and credibility.
13) Terrax
Terrax was one of the many heralds of Galactus. Physically, he looks a bit like Darkseid. A former dictator turned cosmic herald with a giant axe, it's a dark, violent, and imposing role that would be perfect for Dwayne Johnson.
12) Beta Ray Bill
We're still waiting for this famous version of Thor to arrive in the MCU. Beta Ray Bill is one of the most well-known variants of Thor in the Marvel Universe. However, it's difficult to present Beta Ray Bill without using CGI. But Dwayne Johnson can still lend his voice to this cult character.
11) Apocalypse
What if Dwayne Johnson succeeded Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse? If mutants and the X-Men are brought back into the MCU, we'll have to find new actors to play them. Apocalypse, the Egyptian mutant god, has all the physical traits of Dwayne Johnson. Big, strong, muscular, bald, it's all there!
10) Molecule Man
Logically, with the arrival of Secret Wars, Molecule Man should be introduced into the MCU. He plays a central role in the Secret Wars comic by Jonathan Hickman. Still absent from the MCU, we'll have to find a face for him if Marvel wants to introduce him. What if Michael Morbius took on the features of The Rock?
9) Gladiator
Created in 1977, Kallark is the leader of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. Nicknamed the Gladiator, he is arguably the most powerful Shi'ar in history. Power-wise, Gladiator is capable of rivaling characters like Thor. But the most interesting thing about the Gladiator is his self-confidence. The more he doubts, the more Kallark will lose power and vice versa. A haughty, self-assured, superior character, perfect for Dwayne Johnson's look.
8) The Thing
The role of Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, has been given to actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who will make his debut as the character in Fantastic Four: First Steps on July 23. He will return in Avengers: Doomsday, and possibly in Avengers: Secret Wars. While we're sure Ebon Moss-Bachrach will do a great job portraying this iconic character, we'd still love to see Dwayne Johnson in a stone-like skin, ready to fight!
7) Hyperion
Created in 1969, Hyperion is basically Superman's counterpart in the Marvel Universe. He has basically the same abilities, including the power to fly, colossal strength, and the ability to shoot beams from his eyes. Mark Milton is a character from another universe, who has joined Earth-616 somewhat against his will. And then, he has character traits close to those of Black Adam. A way for Dwayne Johnson to change universes via a character that is rather easy for him to handle.
6) Maestro
What if Dwayne Johnson became the face of the Hulk's demonic side? For those who don't know him, Maestro is a dark and violent version of the Hulk. Coming from the future, Maestro is the evolution of the Hulk in a dystopian world. To survive, Bruce Banner gradually abandoned his humanity to become the worst version of himself. Maestro has no limits, no scruples, no remorse. And frankly, it would be a good way to bring some interest back to Hulk's trajectory in the MCU, which is increasingly uninteresting.
5) Luke Cage
We really appreciate the work of Mike Colter as Luke Cage. And we're still waiting for his return to the MCU. While Charlie Cox and Jon Bernthal have been recalled, this is still not the case for Mike Colter. It's difficult to know if Marvel Studios will recast the character and entrust him to another actor or if Mike Colter will get a second chance. In any case, whether it's a new casting or simply a variation, Dwayne Johnson would be the perfect Power Man!
4) Ares
We're still waiting for the introduction of the God of War in the Marvel Universe. An iconic character from the comics, Ares is an extremely powerful anti-hero. Violent, independent, sometimes ally, sometimes enemy, Ares obeys no one. He's a free spirit with colossal strength, whom we can't wait to see arrive in the MCU. Dwayne Johnson would be a great choice to bring the mighty Ares to life.
3) The Stand
We all remember the excellent work of Vinnie Jones as the Stand in The Last Stand. However, we were less impressed by the Stands of Deadpool 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine. An extremely powerful character and much loved by fans, the Stand deserves a new lease on life. And why not in the guise of Dwayne Johnson.
2) Drax
What if Dwayne Johnson played a variant of Drax in the next two Avengers? Honestly, the idea is really cool and it seems so obvious. Dave Bautista did an excellent job in the role of Drax. But we're sure that Dwayne Johnson would have also made an excellent Guardian of the Galaxy. A role tailor-made for him, at once funny, offbeat, and physically imposing. Everything that suits the former wrestler perfectly. And then, opposing Dave Bautista and Dwayne Johnson in two different versions of Drax can bring to life a cult sequence!
1) The Absorbing Man
Crusher Creel is a fairly famous character among comic book readers. Created in 1965 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Absorbing Man was originally a recurring enemy of Thor, but he also often clashed with Spider-Man. In addition to possessing super-strength, as his name suggests, Crusher Creel can absorb any physical matter. He can thus cover his body with any material such as iron, wood, brick, etc. And imagine if he touches Vibranium or Adamantium... Physically, Crusher Creel is the spitting image of Dwayne Johnson.
