Everyone's eyes are on GTA 6, and in a way, that's perfectly normal. It's one of the most anticipated games of the year and of the generation, in addition to being the next iteration of a truly cult franchise. And after the slap of Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar Games is under even more pressure and needs to hit hard. But before the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, a former key member of R* will be making his return to the video game scene with an ambitious project: MindsEye. A game that seems to want to bet on the long term, but by taking a different tack from one of the models that has dominated for many years.
MindsEye wants to be respectful of your time
MindsEye is the next game from Leslie Benzies, who was a producer on the GTA trilogy, some spin-offs, Grand Theft Auto IV and V, Manhunt, and Max Payne 3. A huge resume that he will use to deliver a cinematic blockbuster, linear but with great freedom. Said like that, it may seem contradictory, but that is the promise of this new GTA-like. Initially, Benzies and his teams want to offer a very structured adventure that will thus fulfill the wishes of many players and even the dreams of millions of them due to its lifespan.
While games have been competing for years on this level, MindsEye wants to be a single-player game "like before" and as fortunately still exist. But the latter find themselves in the middle of open-world titles that sometimes require hundreds of hours of play. "I think there is something to be said for "It's about a really meaningful, well-paced, really well-constructed, well-designed story that players can immerse themselves in, that has moments of tension, character development, moments of tenderness, and then moments of spectacle and drama," Benzies told Eurogamer.
With MindsEye, Benzies wants to deliver a "time-friendly story," and that's why the game's lifespan will be around 15 hours. And rather than having a city that's entirely open from the start, it's going to be something you discover as you go. While the latter is a vast minimum with varied locations, it's not an open world either. However, the software won't skip out on additional content for those who want to flit between two story missions. MindsEye is scheduled for release on June 10, 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
