Moustache Monday 20 Cargo Test: When the bike becomes a sedan

Moustache Monday 20 Cargo Test: When the bike becomes a sedan

Designed to carry up to 200 kg – including the driver – it offers a spacious rear platform and a wide range of accessories (child seats, footrests, roll bars, front luggage racks, etc.) to adapt to all uses. Saturday morning shopping, going to and from school or college, transporting DIY equipment, a stroll in the park, or even a trip for two with adults to go for a drink… the Lundi 20 Cargo is suitable for all outings.

A question of size

Its size may raise doubts at first glance. Is the Lundi 20 Cargo too imposing? Its weight (33 kilos) and its size are certainly factors to consider when considering its purchase. But its 20-inch wheels – smaller than average – lower the center of gravity and greatly improve maneuverability. Added to this is the swan-neck shape, synonymous with a low step-through, which means you don't have to raise your leg too high to straddle it. Very practical.

If you add to that a motor powerful enough to make it agile and responsive in all circumstances, you get a surprisingly agile bike for its category. We were able to test it on the streets of Paris and the surrounding area: it's capable of slipping onto cycle paths, taking on steep hills without flinching, parking without too much effort, and handling with almost disconcerting ease, even when fully loaded.

A revised and corrected kickstand, and rightly so

Among the notable new features of this second version of the Lundi 20 Cargo, we especially note the new central kickstand, which deserves a special mention. It deploys in the blink of an eye thanks to a side control pedal, without you having to put your foot down. An ergonomic detail that makes all the difference when you're in a hurry... or when two children are fidgeting in the back.

Moustache has also thought about safety: a lock prevents the kickstand from folding accidentally when loading or unloading the bike. This system is so practical that you might wonder why it wasn't already there on the first version. Good news for first-time buyers: this kickstand will be available as a retrofit. A smart choice from the brand. In addition, another small pedal allows it to be raised just as simply and effortlessly. You can tell that even the smallest details have been thought through for maximum comfort.

A Bosch motor that does the job – and more

In terms of electric assistance, the Lundi 20 Cargo is equipped with the Bosch Cargo Line motor, a logical and efficient choice. It offers a generous torque of 85 Nm, very useful for towing heavy loads or tackling steep slopes. And in practice, it works: the bike remains ultra-smooth, even when climbing with an adult on board. Turbo mode is formidable on hills, without melting the battery like snow in the sun. We were able to cover a good fifty kilometers passing through the slopes of Meudon on a single charge over a day, always having a comfortable margin in the evening, enough to not stress.

Let's talk about autonomy: with its 500 Wh battery (expandable to DualBattery), the Lundi 20 Cargo can easily travel 60 to 70 km in mixed use. Enough to cover daily journeys for several days without recharging. We are not yet at the level of very large commuters or longtails, but for family urban use, it is more than enough.

Driving comfort that evokes the automotive world

What is striking, after a few kilometers, is this feeling of comfort. A smooth ride that almost evokes the world of a sedan. The driving position is upright and relaxed, and the suspension does an excellent job of smoothing out the roughness of the road. You find yourself slowing down, not out of necessity, but out of pleasure. Take your time, look around, chat with the person in the back... Riding (again) becomes a moment of respite.

The hydraulic disc brakes (Magura) ensure progressive and powerful braking, and the equipment is up to scratch: integrated lighting, wide, comfortable tires, wraparound mudguards... everything exudes quality and robustness.

Points for improvement despite everything

No bike is perfect, and the Lundi 20 Cargo is no exception. The weight of the machine—around 35 kg empty depending on the equipment—is felt when stationary or when you have to push it by hand. Maneuvering in narrow corridors or getting it into a room is a bit of a challenge, especially if you don't have a dedicated space. Likewise, its size, even compact for a cargo bike, requires a bit of anticipation in heavy traffic or when parking. Finally, if we had to quibble, we could dream of an option with an automatic transmission for even more fluid gear changes.
