Nintendo: 5 Game Sequels We Didn't Expect But Absolutely Want on Switch 2

Nintendo: 5 Game Sequels We Didn't Expect But Absolutely Want on Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 was revealed in more detail in this week's Nintendo Direct. Price, release date, launch catalog, new features, accessories—information that wasn't necessarily well received by players. And we understand why. However, the Nintendo Switch 2 is coming, and it intends to stay. It's time for us to imagine the future of the console, and especially potential game sequels that we didn't expect on Nintendo Switch 2, but that we absolutely want on Switch 2.

5 Switch game sequels that we didn't expect but that we absolutely want on Switch 2

With its dock, the Nintendo Switch offers gaming sessions in 4K, 60 FPS or 1920x1080/2560x1440, 120 FPS. Of course, all of this is on paper only. We imagine that the maximum experience will depend above all on the game launched. Despite everything, let's be sure, the Switch 2 will offer increased performance compared to the Switch. Logical. But the Switch 2 is first and foremost about increased power, Joy-Cons usable in "mouse" mode, larger SL and SR buttons and a 7.9-inch screen (compared to 6.2 inches for the Switch).

New features that open up a host of gameplay possibilities, it remains to be seen to what extent the games on this Switch 2 will exploit them. As a result, games released on Nintendo Switch, and for which we weren't expecting a sequel, could pleasantly surprise with a sequel on Nintendo Switch 2. Of course, this sequel would cost at least €79.99 in its physical version. Without further ado, here are 5 game sequels we weren't expecting but absolutely want on Switch 2.

#5 Arms 2

Arms is certainly a new license that's been shelved, but it's also an original gameplay idea. Using your arms to hit, block, or dodge is an idea we haven't seen since... Wii Sports on Wii. Arms still has 2.72 million copies sold as of December 31, 2022. So there's a certain demand. Although critics are not unanimous, the game has generally been well received. And with boosted graphics, new characters, increased recognition of the Switch 2 Joy-Con, a stable online mode, Arms 2 has everything to put the series on the map. Currently, only Min-Min is making Arms shine internationally, and that's thanks to Doramigi on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

#4 Snipperclips 2

To accompany the launch of the Switch, Nintendo is counting on Snipperclips: Two in a Pair, a puzzle game in which players control up to four characters and must solve puzzles by cutting themselves into distinct shapes. The idea is good, original, and family-friendly. Even Gautoz from Gamekult was won over (up to a certain point) and praised it in his test, for a game delivering "an intelligent concept, exploited with finesse".

And thanks to the Switch 2, the game can go even further, notably thanks to the new features of the Joy-Con, and why not integrate a community level editor like Super Mario Maker. This Snipperclips 2 can even integrate players' faces like Mario Party: Jamboree does so well, allowing Nintendo to promote its Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, which looks like a 1940s radio microphone and has the potential of a webcam from the last decade.

#3 1-2-Switch 2 (but really good this time)

So... OK, 1-2-Switch isn't the game of the century. But 1-2-Switch 2 (the name is easy to find, too) has the potential to restore the nobility of this great idea that left too soon. Exit the boring mini-games of the first opus, 1-2-Switch 2 can stand out from the competition with numerous, varied, deep and fun mini-games, a Wario Cup-style ranking from Wario Ware Get It Together with weekly challenges, and a concept a little more advanced than that of a simple Micromania arcade demo. In addition, the Joy-Con have been improved for the occasion. What more could you ask for!

#3 Ring Fit Adventure 2

Mario Kart World had its open world, why not offer the same thing to a Ring Fit Adventure 2? Ring Fit Adventure is a good game, there's no denying it. And above all, the game is a commercial success with 15.38 million copies sold as of March 31, 2023. A sequel deserves to exist. On Nintendo Switch 2, obviously. Greater freedom of movement, improved gesture recognition, a Ring-Con enhanced for the occasion, Ring Fit Adventure 2 has everything it takes to be one of the Nintendo Switch 2's standout games. However, nothing on the horizon.

#1 Nintendo Labo 2 (conditionally)

For once, Nintendo has played the originality card. The idea is good, original, works well for the duration of the construction and a short game, and then it's a cold shower. Especially since the cold shower is steep, the Toy-Con are overpriced. But a more advanced Nintendo Labo 2, with modular gameplay, varied creations that players can evolve over time without having to pay again, again, again, again, and again, Nintendo has what it takes. Obviously, Nintendo proved to us with this Direct that the family side of its products stops at the design of the characters and the colorful environments of its games.
