Nintendo Switch 2: Gamers' daring strategy to stop scalpers

Nintendo Switch 2: Gamers' daring strategy to stop scalpers

Only a few more weeks to wait before you can get your hands on the Nintendo Switch 2. The Kyoto-based company's next hybrid console will be available on June 5th. You'll have to pay €469.99 to get the Nintendo Switch 2 on its own and €509.99 for the bundle with Mario Kart World.

Despite prices being much higher than those of the first Switch when it was released, millions of players are expected to rush to buy the console as soon as it launches. With pre-orders for the Switch 2 having opened since April 8th, many people are already guaranteed to have their machine in June. Scalpers, for their part, rushed to pre-orders simply to resell their console at a high price. The "real" gamers are fighting back in an unusual way.

The surprising strategy of gamers angered by Nintendo Switch 2 scalpers

Scalpers, by which we mean individuals ready to buy a coveted product (and generally in limited stocks) to resell it at a much higher price to the most desperate people, have not ignored the Nintendo Switch 2 and its new features.

There are already numerous overpriced ads on platforms like eBay for the console which, let's remember, hasn't even been released yet. Gamers, quite annoyed by scalpers, may have found a way to stop them from doing harm.

Several ads for the Nintendo Switch 2 have appeared recently on eBay. However, these come from gamers not really looking to make a big profit on their console. Their goal is simple: to make scalper listings much harder for buyers to find.

"This is not an ad for the Nintendo Switch 2 console. This is a fake Nintendo Switch 2 ad designed to combat street sellers. Don't buy if you're not a bot," one post reads. "You are purchasing a black and white print of my Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order confirmation with sensitive information redacted. You will not receive a console [...]. No returns, no refunds. No scalping,' another ad reads. A very daring and even risky strategy that eBay might frown upon.

It's worth noting, however, that Nintendo has put some measures in place to prevent scalpers from causing harm. To pre-order a Switch 2 on the Japanese company's store, you must have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. The company also requires a certain amount of play time on Nintendo Switch. For now, the console no longer appears on the Nintendo store. Don't forget that the Nintendo Switch 2 is still available for pre-order from retailers and at much better prices than on eBay.
