Firmware updates – or firmware – for keyboards, mice, headsets, and other peripherals are common and allow manufacturers to fix problems, add features, or improve the compatibility of their devices. But this requires the installation of a dedicated tool, sometimes integrated into the software provided by the manufacturers. Corsair, however, has just had an interesting idea: allowing the update firmware update for some of its peripherals directly online, via a utility available on its website.
A simplified firmware update
Available in a dozen languages, including French fortunately, this tool (still in beta version) allows you to do without the manufacturer's iCUE software to update its K55 Core RGB, K57 RGB Wireless, K65 RGB Mini, K100 RGB keyboards as well as all variants of the K70. The Katar Elite Wireless and Pro XT mice are also compatible, as are the M55, M65 RGB Ultra Wireless and Sabre Pro Champion and Pro Wireless. The Slipstream Wireless USB receiver is also affected. Other products are expected to join this list later.
Please note, however, that access to the Corsair's online tool is only possible via Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Opera browsers on Windows or macOS, with access from Linux still being tested. This limitation, however, remains minimal compared to the ease of use of this firmware update utility, a feature which we hope to see soon from other peripheral manufacturers. The manufacturer also offers the option to register your email address on its website to be notified directly when new firmware is available for its various devices.
