Alongside the announcement of its new Livebox S and Livebox 7 with Wi-Fi 7, Orange has increased the speeds of its fiber offers... but not for its existing subscribers. Will they be able to benefit from it later?
Orange is boosting the speeds of its fiber box offers. With a Livebox Fiber subscription, it is now possible to reach up to 2 Gbps download speeds and up to 800 Mbps upload speeds. Until now, customers benefited from speeds of 1 Gbps and 700 Mbps respectively.
The Livebox Up offer also sees its performance increase significantly. The promised speeds increase to 8 Gbps symmetrically (download and upload), whereas they were “limited” to 2 Gbps downstream and 900 Mbps upstream before the change that has just been made.
Orange is moving to Wi-Fi 7 with its Livebox S and Livebox 7
Small problem, for the moment, only new subscribers to These offers are eligible for this speed increase. As reported by Alloforfait, Orange does plan to upgrade the connections of its formerly eligible customers, but the operation is not planned for immediately and you will have to be patient.
The operator indicates that it will take a few weeks, or even months, for the change to be reflected for those who subscribed to one of these offers before the speed increase. Orange explains that some users will have to change their internet box to benefit from it, especially if you have a model older than the Livebox 5. The ISP also specifies that the evolution towards the new, more efficient XGS-PON network standard is gradual and that its entire infrastructure does not yet support it.
Orange has just presented its new internet boxes, the Livebox S and Livebox 7 (Wi-Fi 7), which are compatible with the XGS-PON and the new announced speeds. These are two Wi-Fi 7 boxes, but only dual-band. They are therefore deprived of an essential function of the standard: the 6 GHz frequency band. Orange estimated that its customers were not making sufficient use of the 6 GHz band on its previous Liveboxes (in tri-band Wi-Fi 6E) so that it would be worthwhile to integrate it into new equipment.
