Oscars: This highly anticipated new category announced

Oscars: This highly anticipated new category announced

For years, several well-known directors and actors have been campaigning for the addition of a "Best Stunts" category to the Oscars, such as Chad Stahelski (the John Wick saga) and Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter. It's now official: the prestigious ceremony will award a statuette to the person whose work in this field was the most extraordinary... But not before the 2028 edition: a date that will deprive a big star of this award, the deep exasperation of moviegoers.

Oscars 2028: "Best Stunts" is coming !

Oscars: This highly anticipated new category announced

While in 2024, David Leitch exploded; the world record for the number of car rolls in The Fall Guy, with his stuntman Logan Holladay even making his entry into the Guinness World Records, it was high time to reward this impressive and risky work, unfairly shunned (despised?) by the Oscars. Whether it's the actors who train night and day to perform perilous action scenes themselves, or specialized stunt doubles who tackle it, in both cases, the result often requires numerous takes, each of which puts the lives of the performers at risk. It is therefore well deserved if they see their work rewarded starting with the 100th edition of the Oscars in 2028, which will introduce a new category rewarding the best stunts.

Internet users want Tom Cruise to be rewarded

Tom Cruise isn't strictly speaking a stuntman, but the 62-year-old American actor is unanimously praised for his incredible work on the sets of the Mission Impossible franchise, in which he has been invested body and soul since the release of the first part in 1996. We also ranked his ten best stunts in the saga here, and there is something to be amazed about...

The fact that Tom Cruise (62 years old, DAMN IT) says that he sometimes fainted while performing this stunt is just crazy... the guy can die to make us experience unforgettable moments at the cinema

The internet's enthusiasm for Tom Cruise's work on Mission Impossible is palpable, but unfortunately, the actor will sign his "last film" in the franchise with The Final Reckoning, in theaters on May 21. For the filming of this opus, he risked his life several times, and it is likely that this adventure will be his final moment as Ethan Hunt. The Best Stuntman statuette will therefore undoubtedly pass him by, and that will infuriate his fans...

And you, what do you think?
