Even though the Nintendo Switch 2 is at the heart of all the discussions, Big N hasn't forgotten its big sister. Thus, an exclusive for the console should be transferred to Sony's blue flag next month.
Exchanges of exclusivities between Sony and Nintendo
An exclusive, as its name suggests, is not supposed to leave the console on which it was designed. However, it is already arrived, and even very recently. Xbox exclusive games, like the latest Indiana Jones, are gradually starting to appear on PlayStation. In the middle of the two giants is Nintendo, the company that seems to be immune to this openness. The Japanese firm is known for being very careful with its licenses, and it is even the company, conversely, that welcomes games from other platforms, particularly with Sony. During the Nintendo Direct on March 27, Patapon 1+2 Replay and Everybody's Golf Hot Shot, two games from cult PlayStation licenses, were announced for Switch (and also for PC).
Even though Nintendo likes to welcome franchises from other publishers, they sometimes give up too. We obviously think of Resident Evil 4, initially exclusive to the GameCube thanks to an agreement with Capcom, but which was finally entitled to a port on PS2 for financial reasons. Another case is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, released on GameCube in 2003, then reissued in a remastered version on Switch and PS4 in 2020. These two games are not licenses held by Nintendo, this remains understandable. On the other hand, this year, Big N decided to let one of its own titles slip away.
A Nintendo platform game on PS5
If the Switch welcomes two Sony games, the console loses one. Indeed, the Gematsu site noticed that a page dedicated to Disney Illusion Island was created on PSDeal.net, and that it is expected to be released on May 30th on PS5. Developed by Disney Electronic Content, this title - the studio's first not to be a port - was an exclusive Nintendo released in 2023. Two years later, it will likely experience a new lease on life.
Disney Illusion Island is a Metroidvania-style platformer in which Mickey and his friends travel across the island of Monoth in an attempt to save the world. With a Metacritic score of 73, the game was well-received, although its difficulty was the subject of much criticism. However, its greatest strength lies in its artistic direction. The studio took the system from Rayman Legends and added visuals inspired by Mickey's latest cartoons. PlayStation players will therefore be able to enjoy a great game, barring any surprises.
