The eSIM is gaining more and more ground. Smartphones that support this embedded SIM card are now available in the mid-range. Android therefore needs to integrate the system a little more into its features.
According to Android Authority, Google is reportedly working on integrating a cloud backup of your eSIM.
The specialized site is based on the beta of Google Play Services (version 25.16.33), a sort of intermediary between applications and the Android system and managing many systems running on your smartphones. Now this famous beta reveals the presence of a new menu offering to save a SIM in the cloud.
What could this be used for?
Reading this information, you may be wondering what what such a system could be used for. We see at least two uses for it. The first is quite simple and one-off: to change smartphones, it is already possible to recover your data, and in the future, you could also recover your SIM card.
The second already seems more critical. In the event of a broken or lost smartphone, it is sometimes complicated to access your data if you have not stored it in the cloud. On the other hand, if you have made arrangements, this makes the situation less stressful. But if you're unfortunate enough to have a plan with an eSIM, you have no choice but to go back to your carrier to move the subscription to a new smartphone. With the option that Google is reportedly developing, this would avoid this step, and potentially additional costs.
