Sonic: The new free game confirms its release date, it's imminent

After Sonic X Shadow Generations last November, SEGA's mascot will soon welcome a real new game, although very different from the formula we know regarding the famous blue hedgehog. This time it will be a free game focused on multiplayer, for PC, Android and iOS, called Rumble. Its release date had leaked a few months ago, and SEGA officially confirmed it this time.

Sonic Rumble fait rouler les credits et sa date de sortie

While waiting for news of Sonic Frontiers 2, which is closer to a traditional game for the license, fans of the blue hedgehog and his whole gang will soon be able to gather on Rumble. This takes the form of a sort of Battle Royale à la Fall Guys, mainly designed for mobile, but also expected on PC. Via an official trailer, its publisher SEGA and its developers Rovio (Angry Birds) confirm its release date: May 8, 2025.

This trailer also gives us a little more detail about what Sonic Rumble is all about. We will play as iconic characters from the blue hedgehog universe, but in toy form, and will encounter several types of events, such as races, survival events, and a Ring Battle to see who can collect the most. Each game will start with 32 players, and this number will decrease over the course of the games, until a final event that will determine who will be in the running for first place.

SEGA and Rovio seem to have high hopes for Sonic Rumble, with long-term support in the form of new free content. It should also be noted that this is a free-to-play, primarily mobile game that does not include microtransactions. The developers did not want to include this type of monetization, as it is "very unpopular in the West, unlike in Japan." However, it will include a Battle Pass system. Before its release on May 8th on PC, iOS, and Android, it is possible to pre-register on the official Sonic Rumble website.
