Switch 2: Nintendo game prices spend a worrying course

Switch 2: Nintendo game prices spend a worrying course

Ouch! At 470 euros, the Switch 2 clearly takes a step up in price (remember that the Switch OLED costs 120 euros less) and we go from a console that is relatively easy to give as a birthday present to your kid to a nice, slightly luxurious gift that you can give to yourself. This significantly changes the face of the customer traditionally targeted by Nintendo.

But the manufacturer doesn't stop there. The first two exclusive games developed internally, Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, will also be sold at a much higher price than Nintendo's other blockbusters. The first will be offered at €79.99 digitally, and €89.99 in physical form. Yes, €90 for Mario Kart is unprecedented and a worrying precedent: nothing will prevent Nintendo from asking this amount for its future AAA games like Zelda or why not Animal Crossing. The €100 threshold is not far away...

There is, however, a way to get Mario Kart World at half price... by purchasing the Switch 2 bundle that contains the game! A pack for 510 euros.

Donkey Kong's next adventures will cost €69.99 to download from the eShop, and €79.99 for the cartridge. This difference between the digital and physical versions is also a first, and here too, we expect it to become a habit. Standard Nintendo Switch games usually cost between €49.99 and €59.99.

Nintendo's voracity doesn't stop there. Updates Switch 1 game updates for Switch 2 may also be chargeable (price unknown at this time). These will bring graphical and performance optimizations, as well as additional game modes and additional content. Free updates will also be offered; the list can be found here.

The cherry on the cake — If you can call it that, it's the Welcome Tour app, a sort of guided tour of the Switch 2 that contains explanations about the console and mini-games. This app could have been included as standard with the Switch 2... but Nintendo decided to charge for it as well, without us knowing the price.
