The Nintendo Switch 2 is now no longer a secret. After a teaser published in mid-January, Nintendo has just officially presented its new portable console, with its share of new features. We now know the price of the console, the pre-order date and when it will be available.
After two intermediate versions released in 2019 and 2021, here is finally the Nintendo Switch 2 which succeeds the first generation of the console, 8 years after its release. It has been the subject of all kinds of speculation for several months, even years.
Visually, no surprises. Through a video published in January 2025, Nintendo had already given us a fairly complete overview of what the Switch 2 looked like.
We generally remain in the same spirit as the original model, but some changes are to Note: the slightly larger screen, magnetic Joy-Cons, and thinner bezels.
Nintendo Switch 2: Price, Pre-Orders, and Release
The Nintendo Switch 2 will officially be available on June 5, 2025, for €469.99. Pre-orders will open on April 8, 2025. Note that Nintendo is also offering a launch pack with the new Mario Kart World game for €509.99, which is €40 more than the console alone.
This price is pretty close to what we expected. The indiscretions announced it at 399 dollars in the United States and we could reasonably expect a few dozen euros more in Europe, or 450 euros. It will finally be 470 euros, with an internal storage multiplied by 8 compared to the first generation, or 256 GB. With the announced improvements, the console is logically more expensive than its predecessors. It is 120 euros more expensive than the 2021 Switch OLED and a little more than the original Switch, which cost €329.99 at launch.
Compared to the competition, the Switch 2 is priced a little higher than the Steam Deck, which costs €419 in its 256GB version. The Asus Rog Ally is priced between €499 and €899.
Where to buy the new Nintendo Switch 2? Currently, no partners are offering it for pre-order. Keep an eye out for deals at Amazon, Fnac Darty, and Boulanger. It will be there as soon as pre-ordering becomes possible on April 8, 2025 or before.
Switch 2: what's new with the new console?
Nintendo didn't give any details on the internal components of the new console during its conference, but we do know that it has a more powerful chip. The Nintendo Switch 2 is thus capable of handling games in 4K at 60 FPS in docked mode, with a frame rate that goes up to 120 frames per second in other definitions. The console is also HDR10 compatible.
In portable mode, we note that the screen has enlarged and goes to 7.9 inches (1080p) although the dimensions of the console have remained the same. This is thanks to the reduction in bezels. They are now much thinner.
The Switch 2's screen is LCD, but make no mistake: Nintendo promises excellent image quality with vivid colors, good brightness, and exemplary contrast.
The console incorporates a better heat management system and a new, wider stand that keeps it better balanced. The internal memory is faster than the first generation and therefore loads games even faster.
You can of course expand the storage capacity by adding an SD card, but older SD cards will not be supported since the new console only supports the more powerful microSD Express cards.
