Switch 2: once again, you will have to do without the achievements/trophies

Switch 2: once again, you will have to do without the achievements/trophies

It's been almost a week since we finally learned all the information about the Nintendo Switch 2. The console is coming to us on June 5th, with a rather steep price of 469.99 euros and games that will be offered at 79.99 euros, some of which could go up to 89.99 euros. This is something that has never been seen before in the video game industry for "standard" games.

As the days go by, we learn more details about some of the machine's features. Thus, we learn that the console should not offer a trophy/achievement system as has been the case on PlayStation and Xbox for (very) many years.

Switch 2: no achievements, it's official

Switch 2: once again, you will have to do without the achievements/trophies

Since the PS3 and Xbox 360 generation, Microsoft and Sony have offered an in-game rewards system, allowing players to unlock achievements (on Xbox) and trophies (on PlayStation). The system was integrated into the Xbox 360's features starting in 2005. Sony will imitate Microsoft on its PS3 starting in 2008.

More than 15 years later, trophies and achievements are important points for players. This brings an additional challenge, a satisfaction when unlocking them and it increases the lifespan of certain games for players who want to achieve 100% of the achievements.

While we already thought we would see this system arrive on the first Switch in 2017, Nintendo continued to shun the concept. It seemedto be obvious in 2025 on Switch 2… And unfortunately, no, that still won't be the case.

During an interview with Polygon magazine, Bill Trinen, Nintendo's vice president of player and product experience, confirmed that there will be no trophies or achievements on Switch 2.

We also learned that some titles will have their own achievements that will be viewable via Nintendo's mobile app. The Switch 1 games, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, for example, will have their own achievements.

But, Bill Trinen has been categorically, no official and mandatory trophy/achievement system for Switch2 games will be implemented on the next console. Too bad.
