Tesla launches a new Cybertruck that's cheaper but stripped of its features

The Cybertruck is facing low demand and numerous recalls, which have done nothing to help its success. In addition to a wave of protests against its boss, Elon Musk, the electric pickup truck is having great difficulty finding customers. It must also be said that the available versions of the Cybertruck were all available at a high price, and that some were waiting for the arrival of a more economical alternative to the dual-motor and tri-motor versions "Cyberbeast".

This third version of the Cybertruck is therefore arriving in the United States (and Mexico) with rear-wheel drive, thus having a single electric motor. Earlier, Tesla had announced this version with a price of $62,000. It will finally be $69,990, according to the Tesla website. However, to reach this price, the model loses many equipment and features. Its range still reaches 350 miles, or 560 km, compared to 400 km previously announced.

What equipment is missing from the cheapest Cybertruck?

The missing equipment is not insignificant. Tesla has removed from its cheapest Cybertruck its adaptive suspension, its motorized bed cover, but also the electrical outlets located in this bed. Including the second motor and the all-wheel drive, this makes a big difference in performance for a model listed $10,000 less than the all-wheel drive version. Not sure that customers are ready to paying that price decides to choose this rear-wheel drive version without its few practical features (and comfort).

According to Tesla, deliveries of this new $69,990 Cybertruck RWD will begin in June.
