Oblivion, the fourth installment in The Elder Scrolls saga, is a video game released in 2006 that marked players thanks to its unique atmosphere and, above all, its almost total freedom. It returns today in a remastered edition that hides a big surprise: it's available right now! Presented during an online conference, The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered is a total reinvention of the base game, with a new engine and modern gameplay. For this project, Bethesda entrusted the reins to the Parisian studio Virtuous. The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered reinvents the base game. First, the entire graphical part has been revised. Here, Unreal Engine 5 is used, with its dynamic lighting effects, facial animations, models and textures in 4K. However, the game remains similar to our memories, as the artistic direction has been preserved. Many details have also been added, as well as work on the sound ambiance and dialogues.

Moreover, the (horrible) interface of the 2006 game has been completely revised, as have the animations and hitboxes. The gameplay is also intended to be more fluid, with combat that feels modern. The third-person view, always a gimmick in the Elder Scrolls, also promises to finally be playable. Last but not least: the much-maligned level scalling has been readjusted, offering an experience closer to what Skyrim offered.

All these changes, however, do not disrupt the structure of the game. We have good old Oblivion. The same open world, the same quests, the same characters. The core remains the same; it's the packaging that has been improved. Note that in addition to the base game, all expansions are included in this Remaster, Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine, as well as the DLC.

But the biggest surprise is actually the release date of this remaster. You won't have to wait long since it's available... now! You can download it on PS5, Xbox Series, but also on PC. As a Microsoft game, it's included in the Game Pass.
